To capture the dramatic lighting of the Los Angeles skyline I used thick, juicy strokes of rich oil paints applied with a palette knife. No preliminary drawing. My goal was to distill everything to its essence; just the big shapes of color and value. I wanted a clean, powerful image and the knife was an ideal way to achieve that.
