How to Access UpToDate Database from UNSW Library
UpToDate is a clinical decision support tool that provides evidence-based answers to clinical questions. It covers more than 11,000 topics in over 25 specialties and includes drug information, patient education, calculators, and guidelines. UpToDate is widely used by health professionals and students around the world.
If you are a UNSW student or staff member, you can access UpToDate database from UNSW Library for free. In this article, we will show you how to access UpToDate database from UNSW Library and how to use its features. Read on to find out more.
How to Access UpToDate Database from UNSW Library?
There are two ways to access UpToDate database from UNSW Library: via the Library website or via the UpToDate app.
Via the Library website
To access UpToDate database from UNSW Library via the Library website, follow these steps:
- Go to www.library.unsw.edu.au and click on the "Databases" link in the search box.
- Type "UpToDate" in the search box and click on the "Search" button.
- Click on the "UpToDate" link under the Database name column.
- You will be prompted to log in with your zID and zPass if you are off-campus or using a personal device.
- Once you are logged in, you will be taken to the UpToDate homepage where you can start searching for clinical topics.
Via the UpToDate app
To access UpToDate database from UNSW Library via the UpToDate app, follow these steps:
- Download the UpToDate app from the App Store or Google Play Store on your mobile device.
- Open the app and tap on "Log in / Register".
- Tap on "Register now" and fill in the registration form with your name, email address, and password. You can also choose your specialty and role.
- Tap on "Submit registration". You will receive a confirmation email with a link to verify your account.
- Open the email and click on the verification link. You will be taken to a webpage where you can confirm your account.
- Go back to the app and log in with your email address and password.
- You will be able to access UpToDate database from UNSW Library on your mobile device.
How to Use UpToDate Database Features?
UpToDate database has many features that can help you find and use clinical information. Some of these features are:
- Search: You can search for clinical topics by typing keywords or phrases in the search box. You can also use filters to narrow down your results by specialty, subtopic, patient age, patient sex, or graphics.
- Topics: You can browse topics by specialty or by category. You can also view recently updated topics, most popular topics, or topics with new recommendations.
- Drug information: You can access drug information by clicking on the "Drug Interactions" or "Drug Database" links at the top of the homepage. You can search for drugs by name, class, or indication. You can also check for drug interactions between two or more drugs.
- Patient education: You can access patient education materials by clicking on the "Patient Education" link at the top of the homepage. You can search for patient education topics by keyword or browse by category. You can also view patient education materials in different languages.
