26’ with 2-position fuel switch ( gauge )

Seeking instructions to properly read EACH fuel fuel tank level READING on the 26’ 1986 Sport cruiser...

The 2- position fuel gauge switch will read the port tank when the switch is in the ____________ (?) position .
( Obviously the reciprocal gives me the stbd tank) Right?

BUT , if anybody has a gauge / switch setup that may read differently than any answers - pls tell me . They were easy to wire either way. Thanks Steve

UPDATE : 26' 2 tank fuel switch (gauge ) reading is verified below..

The 1986 26' Tolly tanks were filled seperately with this confirmation;

when the switch is "in" , the stbd tank is read. "Up" reads the port tank.

My 78 is wired when UP reads Starboard. Really does not make any difference as long as you know which is which
