Does any one know where I can find replacement gasoline tanks for a 1973 40' Tricabin? I have one original steel tank (port side) that has failed and will likely want to replace both.  A molded-style tank would be preferred. Thank you.

Hello Jim,
I am having a new starboard aluminum gas tank (148gal) being manufactured by Coastline out of Bellingham as the original developed a serious leak.
My original tanks are aluminum so decided to stick with that material but have opted to increase the material thickness by one step. Sorry, but not sure who in the area makes Poly tanks.

Kevin,

Thanks for your reply.  Does Coastline have the dimensions for Tolly tanks in general or are you having it custom made based on measurements you’re giving them? The tank that rusted for me was the aft port tank.

What are you being charged for the aluminum tank?

Hi Jim,
I don't know if Coastline has the Tolly tanks on file or not. My starboard tank was removed and provided as a template so I guess it is a custom job since the dimensions are not perfectly square. At 148 gal it was just under the 1/8 inch material limit but I opted up for 3/16 inch anyway which changed the cost from $1850 to just under$2500. Also, the thicker material gets welded on both sides.

Regards,
Kevin

Thanks for the Coastline suggestion.  I opted to go with a company out of New Jersey called SP Tank Company (http://www.sptanks.com) to create two aluminum tanks for the generator hold on my 1973 40' Tricabin. The tanks were different shapes but each around 66 gallons.  SP Tank did an excellent job fabricating off of dimensional drawings and photos of the two removed tanks, including adding senders to the new tanks. Tanks were built to CG standards; they regularly make marine tanks. Turnaround was about two weeks from date of order. The tanks fit perfectly. Cost was reasonable, $1836 for the two tanks, plus FedEx shipping. They were very easy to work with and I'd recommend them.
