I also have a 48, which had a leaking tank. The tanks had already been replaced once and as such were already split into two per side. I have Cummins engines and was able to remove some equipment in front of the engines, swing the tank around and up thru the floor hatches. They then actually fit out the door. Since you have a one-piece tank, they may have to be cut to get out.
If you go down the route of replacing them, I got my new ones from Coastline in Bellingham. They make many tanks for various boats. I have a drawing that was used to manufacture my new ones if that is of any help. They were around $1500 per tank, but was a few years ago.
