Crusader Exhaust Manifold Replacement?

The port engine in our 1988 34 SS has been overheating.   We have original twin Crusaders with about 2200 hours.  New water pumps did not fix the issue.   Our mechanic recommends replacing the 20 year old cast iron exhaust manifolds with new "generic" center-stack versions that are more similar to a Mercruiser in design.   Does anyone have experience with this or a sense of what it should cost to do both engines (4 manifolds)?  Thanks!
