We have a new, to us, 44 CPMY and the wood behind the handrail along the lower edge of the flybridge is 80% rotten. Both port and stbd. sides have the same problem with the stbd. side being complicated because the wood is soft above the sliding door.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Are there any clever solutions?

The wood is 2” thick x 3-1/2 or 3-3/4 tall and 12’ long. It’s screwed and glued (with 5200, I think) to the cabin top. The handrail is screwed on from the outside. The lower edge of the flybridge is screwed into the wood also.

Barring any suggestions I plan on removing the mostly rotted wood, gluing up a replacement piece of wood, encapsulating with epoxy and using 5200 to “glue” it to the cabin (no screws).  The handrail, drip edge and flybridge will be screwed on as original.

I’ve attached a photo as a reference. BTW, we knew this was an issue before our purchase though a bit worse than we thought

Any tips or wisdom are appreciated,
TimH
