What would Tollers be thinking?

http://www.smh.com.au/news/film/hobbit-film-in-doubt-again/2008/02/12/1202760257727.html

Sorry for my lack of presence recently. I've had a tough couple of
weeks with work. On top of that we had to put Daisy (our dog) down of
17 years last week. I'm still recovering.

As you can see I have a new e-mail address as we have finally been
able to access broadband. Yay!

David,

Great job on the latest Tilkal issue. I haven't read all the articles
yet but there's no rush. Jeff - you're on fire.

Jeff, if you were thinking of contributing to "Kiss of the Lily",
forget it. The editors have just scuttled it. Not enough good
submissions. Otoh I may not have mentioned it as they were looking for
romance stories. Donna (Hanson, one of the editors) certainly picked a
bad day to call it off.

That is sad, Michael. The dog, I mean but also the tough time at work.
Our daughter (Trish) has two dogs and I'm sure she'd be very upset if
anything happened to either of them; otoh it is highly likely that
she'll outlive both so the time will probably come.

Great news about the broadband, but don't get addicted to You Tube :)

This is a continuation of my readings in 'Materpieces of Fantasy and
Wondrr.'....edited (rather..compiled) by one David .G. Hartwell.
After the Mark Twain piece I decided to read Charles Dicken's piece.he
is a hero of mine!
Titled 'Prince Bull' (a fairy tale), it Is an allagorical tale and the
BULL character (as Prince) is undoubtedly the KIng (or Queen) of
England......the tale is simple enough....A once fighting Prince
called Bull has declined into a fool of a ruler...he is ruled by his
servants who are corrupt, immoral and a most lazy group of suckers.
Prince B has a Fairy godmother ..wicked and interfering.she stuffs up
(eeven further) when the fool of a Prince Bull decides to fight Price
Bear.....she interferes with even the mildly good ideas to ensure that
all is lost....Later after the war is lost, he pauses has ONE GOOD
IDEA....thinks that he might train his sevants to be GOOD
servants..she goes poof!...and he forgets that he ever had that
thought at all.

C dickens once called a MInistry in Whitehall...The Ministry of
Circunlocution (Little Dorrit) and this about says it all!

lA tale for all times ,ages and goverments right up to our own poor
days.........
..too late for fool Bush( Bull) Jr tho'......

Soon I also intend to read the second half of ' Ivanhoe' and Ted there
is a prize for you if you can guess why I intend to read Sir W.S's
second half of the once famous novel!

I have no idea, Jeff. To me "Ivanhoe" is one of the two watering holes
in Blackheath (the other, and rather more historical, is Gardner's
Inn). When I saw "Sir W. S." I first thought of W. S. Gilbert.
Coincidentally Arthur Sullivan's only Grand Opera was "Ivanhoe" but
Gilbert had nothing to do with it. It was of course based on WS's book
and I don't know who the librettist was. It's never performed now (as
far as I know).

Now that would be a shindig. Unfortunately, I will be in Perth this
Friday. However, I may very well be in Melbourne sometime over the
next few weeks so I'll be sure to check out the new digs.

You missed this year's Natcon (National Science Fiction Convention) by
a week. It was in Perth over Easter. I didn't make it but my colleague
in the Australian SF Bullsheet, Edwina Harvey, got the NAFF (National
Australian Fan Fund) award and so got an all expenses paid trip to it.
We missed out on a Ditmar for the Bullsheet, but with three under our
belts we can't complain.
