I just noticed on the Wikipedia under "recent deaths", the death on 1
August of Pauline Baynes. She was 85.

Yes. I heard through the Tolkien Society e-mails. I was surprised that
she was only 85 actually.

A Dear Michael letter,
DM,
I am still in a quandary whether or no to come to Sydney on the GF weekend.....err mainly because of TEd's own quandary.........no body seems to wish to inform him when he speaks or not speaks whichever be the case...also I am a tiny bit short of cash..that is to say I have the cash but should be wondering just how I should spend same...I intend to ring you soon..............Where are you now and for the next week?
Yours in Tol Handorship Fraternity....(Ow's that?)
Jeff

It's been a while since I received a Dear Michael letter! E-mail me
your new number if you like. I'm NSW bound for a week but off to NZ
for a few days on Sunday. To GF or not to GF! That is the question.

MY new Telephone number....if that's what you mean Dm...is
(03) 93805060
THia next part is to be sent on or otherwise read by YE OLde Editor our one and only Marathong boot scooter.....much better than the real spelling!

At my request(and err.payment) I had Der Berggeist Letters at 64,000 words professionaly 'read'...............via Sidartha Publishing.Melbourne...........................
Promising comments include(when the reply got back to me just yesterday)
1.a.......... fascinating recount of recent history.
2. a thoroughly detailed and enjoyable read.
3. (the manuscript) would be well worth publishing......
4. thank you for letting me read your manuscript..this last................. prob just a professional courtesy!
5.....we are left with the sense that when Angus does read this biography (remembering that he was only 6 plus when the work was begun!)... of his grandfather's he will understand what a gift he has been given.
....this last phrase really made me cry.......truly........for that is exactement what I was aiming at!!!!!!!!!!!
But better than that ..still!....(I) felt the nuances and general thrust of my (letters) to Angus from abroad were understood well by this appraiser.( ERR.SEE POINT 5) ............it seems that with(a lot) of editing...........possible not those parts that good ole YE ED was attacking the book might stand up WELL.MMMMMM....(possibly!)
So this is grist to the buding old writer who is still breaking his ballls writing each and every night time thank you.....Berggeist is my MAJOR work!

und................
TO NZ?
THat means that you will(won't) be in Sydney on GF Michael???????
