Anderson's book provides the most accessible approach to compressible flow for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering students and professionals. In keeping with previous versions, the 3rd edition uses numerous historical vignettes that show the evolution of the field. New pedagogical features - "Roadmaps" showing the development of a given topic, and "Design Boxes" giving examples of design decisions - will make the 3rd edition even more practical and user-friendly than before. The 3rd edition strikes a careful balance between classical methods of determining compressible flow, and modern numerical and computer techniques (such as CFD) now used widely in industry and research. A new book website will contain all problem solutions for instructors.

A new approach is taken in teaching elective courses in thermal/fluid sciences (TFS) specialities primarily to undergraduate students in mechanical, aerospace, and chemical engineering disciplines by incorporating new and advanced technology into the curriculum. Two courses are designed at mezzanine level for undergraduate and graduate students that utilize computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and experimental methods. Techniques to enable undergraduates to learn advanced course materials are discussed. A course in Applied Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is designed that combines the basic concepts in algorithmic and numerical aspects of CFD with experimental verification and validation. The course provides a mathematical and physical understanding of the behaviour of the conservation equations for different flow regimes through lectures, projects and hands-on experience. Another course in modern compressible flow will enable students to utilize the CFD technology and measurement methods to find accurate solutions to a wide range and complex problems in gas dynamics. Students develop the capability to utilize this new and growing technology in their industrial career after graduation.

At the end of the course students should be able to understand the physical phenomenology of the compressible flows considered in the course, they are supposed to know methods for the estimation of aerodynamic forces around aeronautical geometries and to use project methodologies for this class of flows.

Classes and excercises are frontal and carried out using the blackboard. Exercises are solved using Matlab software. The additional didactic material, besides the reference textbooks, is distributed on the platform google classroom.

3) Quasi 1D motion: steady flow in adiabatic ducts without friction, normal shock waves, flow in adiabatic ducts with friction (Fanno) and flow in ducts with heat exchange and without fricition (Rayleigh).
