GENは、世界中各地で展開されている、1万以上のコミュニティやプロジェクトからなるグローバルネットワーク。

GENによるエコビレッジの定義
エコビレッジは、地元所有の参加型プロセスを通じてその道筋を意識的に設計している、意図的、伝統的、または都市型のコミュニティであり、再生の 4 つの分野 (社会、文化、生態学、経済をシステム全体の設計に組み込む) でエコビレッジの原則に取り組むことを目的としています。

エコビレッジは、美しい代替案と革新的なソリューションを開拓する生きた実験室です。これらは、活気に満ちた社会構造を備えた田舎または都市の集落であり、非常に多様ですが、環境負荷が少なく、質の高いライフスタイルに向けた行動において団結しています。
