Yo,

Mentioned this at the meeting and was told to post on list:

For those of you that have never heard of Skillshare, it's a rapidly growing net service thing that connects people who want to teach something (any level, usually one shot classes or short series) and people who want to learn something - much like how hackerspaces teach classes, in fact. Instructors charge small amounts for small classes, e.g. quick intro to photoshop or how to make a sourdough starter or something, skillshare takes a cut. There are both in person classes for specific cities and online offerings that can be taken from anywhere. I've taken a few classes and generally had good experiences.

Skillshare does NOT have a branch in Tokyo yet, but there is a Japanese language clone that started up recently, called Street Academy. I haven't looked too deeply into it yet, but it looks like they might be an interesting service to collaborate with, or even just post classes on, in the future.  Especially regarding attracting Japanese class takers. (For now it's actually Japanese only.)

On a related note, this was recommended to me a while back but I don't
think I posted it.

There's a very local organization like this at
http://www.shibuya-univ.net/

I admit the wall of text is pretty dense. I ought to sit down and try
signing up for a class or two sometime.
