I seem to recall hearing from someone a while back (I don't remember who) that THS was looking for a replacement projector. I have a 1080p Mitsubishi home theatre projector (largish, but very quiet) that I basically no longer use that I'd be willing to donate. Unfortunately, there's an issue with the LCD panel that causes a purplish discoloration at the lower-right-hand corner of the screen, and I think that's not likely to be fixable except via an expensive panel replacement. However, it does have a brand new bulb, which should be good for 2000-2500hours in "econo" mode.

If THS wants this, I'd be happy to donate it and bring it by tomorrow during the Open House.

I also have a 90" screen (no stand; it must be hung) for which I'm open to ideas for its fate.

And sorry for not being around much lately, guys, but my job has been kinda eating my life. (In particular, I've been spending my personal time catching up on various software projects related to work technologies.) I'm not really sure when I'll be visiting again on a more regular basis.

Hi Curt,

It's been a while since we saw at the space!

I was the one who discussed about the projector. THS could use it to replace our current one, would be awesome really.
I personally don't see a need, or enough space, for the screen though. (for it's normal use)

The projector "situation" was brought up in an admin meeting a few month back. Our current projectors already had it's lamp timer reset... it's way past the hours it's rated for. It could die anytime. If it does we would need to find/buy a second hand one.

Our current projector is lacking a bit in term of brightness and resolution. But honnestly our requirements are pretty low. As far as we can use it for classes.

Unless the discoloration on your projector makes it actually difficult to use for slides, it should be a major upgrade.
As a last resort, if the discoloration becomes worse over time, we might be able to use it with 4:3 resolutions... as an absolute last resoet.

Well, this projector certainly solves the resolution problem. Brightness should be fine, too, though if one can live with econo mode it greatly increases lamp life (by about 50%) for not much reduction in brightness.

The discoloration is basically things turning purplish (I think the green subpixels have a problem) in the lower right-hand corner and barely affects 4:3 mode at all. It will be very noticeable with static white backgrounds and not at all for black backgrounds; how much this annoys you depends on the person, really, but I think it will be fine. With video I found I stop noticing it after a while and I'm somewhat fussy about colours, even.

I still have to do a couple of things this afternoon before I can get around to packing it up, so I'll bring it by late this afternoon, probably between four and five p.m. See you guys in a bit!

Ok, so it's been decided that THS definitely does not want the projector. If anybody else knows of another worthy cause not particularly fussy about the colors who might be interested, let me know, or it's going to Hard-off or wherever.
