Hi everyone.

Chris Shannon and I met up with Chris Harrington in Kamogawa and checked out Tokyo Hackerfarm. The hackerfarm is a property we’ve been renting since September in Kamogawa, approximately 1.5 hours outside of Tokyo. We’ve discussed it and decided that we’ll be making it an extension of Tokyo Hackerspace where we can experiment with agricultural, food, and environmental technology. We’ll also be doing fun things out there like aquaponics, hydroponics, meat smoking/curing, cheesemaking, building outdoor ovens, and of course heavy barbecuing J

We’re also planning to have farmcamps where we setup a bunch of workshops over a weekend and people can choose what they want to participate in, lounge around, or go hiking. The farmcamps will probably have hands on workshop on things like pottery, hydroponics, butchering and meat preservation, cheesemaking with farm fresh raw milk (yay!), farming/gardening, and many others.

We’re starting off by taking a trip out there probably 11/17-18 to fix up the place. We’ll be knocking out walls and installing drywall, and probably reflooring parts of the living area. If people want to help out, let us know. If there are enough people, we’ll rent a van and head on down.

Anyways, here are the pictures of what is now Tokyo Hackerfarm!

Yeah, it's definitely gonna be fun. It'll take a bit of work at first, but
it'll be a foodie heaven as well as an eco-nerd heaven :)

Interesting space.  The backyard, shed, and little drainage ditch look like they could have interesting possibilities. Looking forward to heading down and checking the place out.

I don't suppose this fixerup weekend could happen on the 24th-25? Everything under the sun seems to be happening on the 17th for me.

I think its still flexible. Chris S might have Thanksgiving duties for Kimono though. It’s up to him. I’m fine with 24-25.

I don't think 3rd and 4th will work out. It's a Monday/Tuesday. Make is on
the 2nd and I think a lot of people want to go check that out. We'll
probably go later on in December but that weekend is likely a no-go.

I'd like to keep the welding rig in Tokyo. If it's out there, only people
that go out there will get a chance to learn welding. We're going to try and
have a separate set of equipment out there for hackerfarm specific
activities. We can share tools between the places though but THS tools
should stay at THS and hackerfarm tools should stay at hackerfarm.

Prob very useful down there in the remodel And build out phase

I don't think we need it down there at the moment. When we do the work on
the place, we mostly need a saw, drill, possibly nail gun, etc. Mostly basic
stuff. If the hackerfarm needed a permanent rig in the future, we can just
get one down there.

I'm actually totally free on mondays and fridays, so I'd be game for that too.

I have to talk it over with the wife, but I may be able to come down
and help do some demo/drywall activities. As long as there are masks
(asthma+drywall dust doesn't mix well).
