Until we can use the real big-ass welder, maybe we can do sth like this: http://hackaday.com/2012/10/31/diy-spot-welder-makes-metalwork-easy/

I have used one in the machine shop of my university. It was cool, but not so powerful. There is even the possibility of manufacturing different types of electrodes. Anyone interested?

That's a nice one. And it looks rather simple to build.
An electrode shaped like the THS logo might be nice.... some sort of
electro-enhanced inkan for bare-metal stamping ;)

Yeah. We had one at the job where I did data acquisition. Same deal. Small unit, just to tack real thin sheet to make solar covers for some sensors.
In the desert, 110 in the shade heats sensors over 140 in direct sunlight. Even things having nothing to do with temp have drift due to heating.

ahhh that make even less sense.... why you carry supercaps with 110 F in the desert with you and how does heat create a change in capacitance of a  sensor to 140 F? I am confused ;)
ahhhh you mean °F, a unit only used in United States, Cayman Islands and Belize, sorry for overlooking this :P
