Hi All,

I had a great time last night at the Cookpad office, and would like to
thank them and everyone else for attending, obviousl,y also. I missed
the last train and slept under my desk, eventually. I think next time
I'll pay more attention to the time :).

Anyway, I'd like like to write down some collaboration ideas that came
out of discussions last night before I forget:

1) Rails Rumble entry.
http://railsrumble.com/

Rails Rumble is a yearly weekend Rails coding competition. Even though
it's only a yearly event, it might be fun to work on something
Japan-related, or language learning related etc. next year (or
anything really, it doesn't have to be, of course).

As far as I know, it's not a super-serious competiton, so it's OK just
to have fun with it.

2) Railscamp
http://railscamps.com/

RailsCamps are often held in the US, Australia, UK, and also in Europe
(Germany, Denmark) .. but there's never been one held in Japan.
Organizating one is probably a bit of work, but there would be plenty
of beautiful areas to hold one, and I wouldn't be suprised if some
people would come from overseas to attend it, as sort of a
holiday/hacking trip (I'm using that as an excuse to go to Railscamp
in Perth soon!)

There were plenty more, I'm sure.

Cheers!

Robert

Hey Robert,

Robodisco here (adam), sorry to hear about your last train incident.

Both ideas sound great. Ill be up for either. The rails rumble sounds like a good starter, perhaps it would help gain traction for the first japan rails camp. Either way sounds like a good excuse for everybody to meet up in a nearby pub to discuss what to build.

anyway in otaru now and spending too much time online when should be out exploring. Ill check back in a day or two.

RailsRumble 2010 was just last weekend, so I think the next one won't
be for a year (although I don't know how often they are held).

I'll go to my first Railscamp in a couple of weeks. I'll ask them what
challenges etc. they had in organising it, and let you all know.

Robert
