I noticed in the most recent beta build the PS2 BIOS files have been moved to a bios/ps2 subfolder. But it also seems ps2-0230*-20080220.bin is now required, and I get no errors if I don't have the scph*.* files from the official documentation.
Additional note: I noticed you can supply your own .MEC files, but the emulator can also create them for you if you don't. The Batocera docs list these files with uppercase extensions, but if you supply them as such, lowercased .mec files are created right next to them. Are the docs wrong and should we supply these lowercased, or is there an issue with the current version of the emulator?
When version 36 stable game and installed it I notice some issues with some of my ps3 games so I decided to upgrade to a new beta version. But every time I upgrade to any beta version after 36 no ps3 games play. To make matter worst ps2 game not ever load now. The same applies for other emulators as well. I try to load a mame game for example and after a few seconds I am back to batocera theme.
But the issue I am reporting is for batocera. When updating to any (beta) version of batocera after version 36 (stable) no game is able to play on any emulator that I have tested. This does not seem to be specific to an emulator or a bios but a more general issue.
I then when to the mame configuration and notice that I was using Vulkan there as well. When I set Vulkan Api to Auto for mame games they started working again. So I am guessing the problem with the betas has something to do with Vulkan api.
After checking even more I notice that batocera beta (after v36) no longer loads the correct Nvidia drivers on my system. It loads the mesa drivers which causes the whole problem. They run very slow in comparison with the Nvidia ones and when you try to use Vulkan the system is either not working or crashes.

AetherSX2 is a PlayStation 2 emulator for Androids that lets you play any of the many games from the second Sony console which, as of 2022, remains the most sold console in history. As usual with any emulator, some games work better than others, but, in general, their performance is outstanding.
It's also important to know that, even though AetherSX2 works pretty well on medium-range devices, it's best to have an Android device with Snapdragon 845 or equivalent if you want good game performance. The emulator also works easily on devices with two processors, like with the Snapdragon 700 series, but game performance will suffer a little.

Bleemcast! is an independently developed commercial emulator by Bleem! that allows one to load and play PlayStation discs on the Sega Dreamcast. It was created by using the MIL-CD security hole found in the Dreamcast BIOS.
Two days after Bleem! started taking preorders for their emulator, Sony filed suit over violations of copyright. Sony had accused Bleem! of engaging in unfair competition by allowing PlayStation BIOSs to be used on a personal computer as this would ultimately damage Sony's sales of the PlayStation. The Judge had rejected the notion, and issued a protective order to "protect David from Goliath". Sony's second copyright allegation regarded the use of screenshots on their advertisements comparing the native PlayStation and emulated Bleem! versions. The district court had held in favor of Sony regarding the allegation and issued a preliminary injunction against Bleem!; however, Bleem! later appealed the decision providing their use of copyrighted material was protected under fair use. The appeal was successful, with the court stating that the use of screenshots of Sony's video games rather constituted comparative advertising.[5]
These days, Sony is a little less rabid about people emulating its original foray into the gaming market and many Playstation emulators have since become available. The most recent emulator to grace the scene is from psx4all and it is for the iPhone/iPod Touch. While not yet ready for public consumption, the emulator is approaching the beta stage. The developer estimates that 75 percent of Playstation games will be compatible by the time he is done, but he still has a lot of code optimization to do.

RetroDeck is an all-in-one emulation solution that uses EmulationStation as its main interface. Because it is self-contained, it will behave as a single app with all of its emulators pre-installed and configured. This is a great solution if you just want a simple emulation experience that you can access directly from your SteamOS environment. Moreover, the app is available as a FlatPak directly in the Discover app via Desktop Mode on your Steam Deck, making the installation process super easy. RetroDeck is in active development and not yet in a final release state.
By default, EmulationStation will prefer specific emulators. To change them out, enter the Main Menu by pressing START > Other Settings > Alternative Emulators and change them as you see fit. CryoUtilities is a tool that will allow for some under-the-hood performance tweaks that improve gameplay smoothness for high-end emulators like Yuzu (Nintendo Switch). When used in combination with the PowerTools plugin featured below, you can have improved gameplay with very minimal work. This tool was created by YouTuber CryoByte33, and you can find his in-depth explanation of the tool and its benefits in this video.
PowerTools: PowerTools is a plugin that will allow you to tweak specific emulators and games for the best performance. For example, it works really well with Dolphin by allowing you to reduce the number of CPU threads used by the app from 8 to 3 (be sure to also turn SMT OFF), which will make the 3 threads perform at a higher clock speed and provide smooth gameplay.
SaveBackup: This tool will back up your save games to a cloud service like Google Drive or Dropbox. This tool is in beta and so for now it will only back up your save games. In the future, this tool will also sync with other devices.
The PlayStation can play just fine on RetroArch with all the bells and whistles, but the standalone Duckstation emulator is excellent, too. It also has a sweet radial Quick Menu that can be activated by scrolling the left trackpad near the bottom-left which makes navigation super easy. You can see a demonstration image of a similar menu in the 3DS/Citra section above. Be sure to enable the PS1 controller profile to access the Quick Menu.
