Hey everyone,

As many of you know, each year in the summer our department has a slow pitch softball team (aptly named the Tokabats) that plays in a league against teams of grad students and staff from other Princeton departments. It's pretty laid back and a good way to enjoy summer evenings away from lab. No experience necessary! Every year we have a handful of complete beginners. If you played any little league baseball as a kid, you're probably within 1 standard deviation of the average skill in the league. If you played through middle or high school, congrats, you would probably be one of the better players on our team. Games are in the evenings on average 1-2 times per week beginning at 5:45 PM just south of main campus, from May 21 - Aug 1. Cold beer is present at most games.

Unfortunately, our numbers have been dwindling, to the point that it has been difficult for us to consistently field a team the past two summers. It's meant to be fun and relaxing, so I really don't want to be in the position again of begging/guilting people at 4 PM to play that evening because we "only need two more people to have enough!" For that reason, I want to feel out how many people are interested in playing this year, and how much. If we have enough new players this year, we can continue as usual. If we have a similar number of people as last year, I would probably reach out to other departments to merge teams.

So please, reply to this email to let me know if you plan on playing this year, and if so, how much (out of ~20 games: 0-3 "few", 4-7 "some", 8-12 "half", 13+ "most"). This response is not binding in any way but will help determine if we need to merge with another department. If you have never played before and are interested, just let me know and I can send you some more detailed information. Likewise, please forward this to anyone you know who might be interested, or put me in contact with them. They need not be affiliated with PPPL, or even Princeton for that matter.

Looking forward to another enjoyable season!

Jeff

P.S. If you're a former Tokabat and wish to unsubscribe from the Tokabats email list, just let me know.
