The Snipping tool's New button is not working for new screenshots. However, it works for new recording. I am on the Windows 11 insider preview, build 25905. It has happened before and I was able to fix it by changing some files associated with the app but could not fix it this time. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas that can help me fix it? thanks in advance
Press and hold Windows + Shift + S keys simultaneously until it becomes a dim overlay on your screen and a small toolbar at the top. You can choose one of the four options from the toolbar rectangular, freeform, window snip, or full screen. Now, click and drag your mouse to select the area you want to capture.
Hello Salman!
I wanted to express my gratitude for your valuable contribution. Your input has been incredibly helpful. However, I would like to clarify that the issue I am facing is specific to the 'New' button functionality in the snipping app. This button is only visible when manually opening the snipping app. When accessing the snipping app, various features are available, such as screen snipping, and screen recording. The problem arises when attempting to take a snip using the 'New' button. Unfortunately, the 'New' button is unresponsive on my system, rendering it impossible to capture screen with the 'New' button. Although I am aware of the shortcut method, my concern lies solely with the malfunctioning 'New' button when using the snipping tool.
Thank you once again for your assistance!
The "sfc /scannow" is indeed a useful utility that can scan and repair system files in case of corruption.
Thank you again for your feedback, it is a pleasure to assist you.

I have the same problem, but not using snipping tool. In fact, it happens almost each time I change windows. I mean : I am drawing in Aseprite (using any tool), then I browse some websites with Firefox => when I come back to Aseprite : no mouse pointer. Sometimes I can see the pointer lagging 15 sec then vanishing.
I was able to reproduce the bug (even the pointer lagging) just one time doing some random stuff with pointers/pens (wacom + windows stylus). Now I need to understand the exact steps that reproduce the issue, but at least now I know that I might be able to reproduce the problem in my PC.
I re-installed aseprite and my wacom drivers, the problem still remains, BUT this time if I press alt+tab 2 or 3 times (which means: go to other tabs for a while) and return to aseprite, my tools start working again
So I went to the Wacom driver webpage and saw 6.3.27-2 was the last one. I installed it, and now the mouse pointer disappears way less than before, and like @Nabuco if I press alt+tab 2-3 times everything works again.
I just bought the program yesterday and this has been happening to me all the way, I hvent been able to use it, since I have to chat usually with my clients and is super frustrating. I use an old bamboo tablet,
what might be the solution?
Basically, for several reasons, in vista/windows 7 64-bit OS'es when a 32 bit application try to access to C:\Windows\System32\ it is automatically redirected to the folder called C:\Windows\SysWOW64\. Hence, you cannot start snippingtool.exe because it is not present in that folder.
The title says it all. I customized different keyboard shortcuts. But every single shortcut config still keeps bringing up windows snipping tool. This is Windows 11. Is this a known bug? Are there any workarounds?
This is true. It arose because Microsoft changed things when it released Windows 11. So the problem is with Microsoft rather than Evernote. I'm sure that there could be some work done by Evernote to resolve the issue but since the workaround is trivial I anticipate that it will be sometime in arriving.
Meanwhile, I recommend Win+Shift+S which will open the Windows snipping tool with the cross hairs (just like the Evernote process used to have). Highlight the screen area you wish to snip. Then open the note where you want this to be captured (if it is a new note tap Ctrl+N) and tap Ctrl+V to paste the clip into the note.
To make things a bit less hassle I reset the New Note shortcut to Ctrl+Alt+N. Ctrl+N often launches a new window for whichever application has focus so doesn't always open a new note in Evernote unless Evernote has focus. Ctrl+Alt+N usually work regardless...
Ive withheld upgrading to the latest Evernote for years because of how I used evernote in my workflow, I upgraded earlier today and now my Evernote screenshots wont work on Win11 and it has becomes a sort of muscle memory for me to take screenshots using Evernote for around decade. Now it doesn't work =/
Use the Windows snipper (Win+Shift+S), capture the screen area and paste into a new note. If you wish, make the Windows screen capture directory an Evernpte Import Folder and then Win+Shift+S will work exactly as the Evernote screen capture previously did.
I would hardly call the original workaround "trivial." It is three keystrokes instead of one. But this last tip is brilliant and works well enough: add the Windows screen capture directory (C:\Users[User Name]\Pictures\Screenshots) as an Evernote Import Folder. Thank you agsteele!
Simply quitting the Snipping Tool and restarting it may help with the problem. You can use the built-in program Task Manager that allows you to close any non-responding or freezing application to end the Snipping Tool completely, and then have a relaunch to see if your problem can be solved.
If you have an outdated graphics driver, your graphics would not be able to process images appropriately in your computer and as a result, the Snipping Tool cannot be used properly. So you should update your graphics driver to see if it fixes your problem.
The Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) is a command-line tool for Windows image service. One of its many uses is to repair system images when image-related problems occur. So if your Snipping Tool is not working correctly, you can run the DISM command with the RestoreHealth option to see whether problems come from the system image.
On Windows 11 with both Cortex 7.9.1 and the most recent 8.0 version when users use the Snipping tool to take a screenshot, the whole computer freezes and only the mouse works, users have to CTRL-ALT-DEL and logout to get working again. When Cortex XDR is removed then the Snipping tool works as expected, as anyone else had this and if so how did you resolve?

I've used Win 7/Vista's snipping tool for ages without any issues until this past month or two, when suddenly I find I can no longer use it within Firefox (v 25) for anything. As soon as I open it up (regardless of settings) it turns the screen black and so I can't see the portion I want to snip. I've tried changing various settings within it, and also within Firefox but nothing's worked. I switched off things like Adblock & Ghostery and tried it even without many of my usual add-ons running all to no avail.
Sorry - couldn't find a way to delete the above, but I've found the answer & it's actually nothing to do with Firefox. Seems to be related to another program I installed a while back & totally forgot about - Trusteer Rapport - it's a program that protects the browser from keylogging/hacks etc with respect primarily to your online banking.
When I paste the screenshot in a program, the border stays with the picture. When pasting the screenshot in Paint.NET however the border disappears and it seems to be transparent in stead of a border. I can't remember when this was starting to happen, is this a setting that I have overlooked in Paint.net?
I did some testing with the snipping tool. The option "Show selection overlay when Snipping is Active" is marked. Notice that when I paste the picture in other programs, the border is showing correctly.
After some more research I found out that this problem was only when I selected "black" as border in the snipping tool. When I select another color like a red border, it does paste correctly in paint.NET.
Ever since I downloaded the latest AI whenever I try to take a screenshot with either the snipping tool or the PrtScn key this is what I get and I don't even have Illustrator open! I really need to be able to take screen shots so if anyone can help me I would appreciate it.
The snipping tool and the print screen now work and there is no interference. I never did get my IT guy to look at my computer because of other deadlines. There was an update to Windows 10 on Tuesday and after that the Print Screen and Snipping tool worked as expected! Thank you for your attention!
I am in a position where I need to take a screenshot of specific coordinates of the screen and save that screenshot to a particular folder on my machine. Since the default Power Automate functionality only allows me to take screenshots of the entire screen or foreground window, I have turned to trying to automate the Snipping Tool to accomplish this goal.
