Does anyone know if instead of buying an all in one touch screen
computer if I would be able to buy a 23" touch screen monitor and run
it through my laptop? - Just a thought, would save me a lot of money
setting this up.
Thanks
nick

I cannot specifically address the 23" monitor, but I have a 15" touch
screen monitor and it works fine except the sizing issue. So I would
think you could. Though when I priced them the all in one was cheaper
than a separate trouchscreen. I only looked at ELO monitors though.

Linda,

Thanks for your reply, I was finding them as low as $239.95, See link
below. The computers were around $1500.
I just thought If i could hang a 23" monitor (for the sizing issue)
for less than $500 and use my current laptop, All I would need is a
printer and build my booth. Didn't want to just go out and start
buying things if they weren't going to work.

Thanks

I am a little confused.

FOR THE ORIGINAL PROGRAM LAWRENCE PROVIDED:
Unless I misread the link (thank you for sending) that is not a
touchscreen monitor.
Right now, once the program is functioning, you have to have a
touchscreen. Though somone figured out how to
use a bamboo tablet to enable the moust.
The Gatewayyall in one runs about $800.00

NEW PROGRAM
Once the new program is finished, you can use either. Then yes, by
all means you can use the monitor at the link you
sent, but with a mouse. I am thinking you will want to have a
protective screen (plexiglass maybe) in front of a regular monitor.

What about those of you with photobooths already? What if anything
are you doing to protect your non-touch screen monitors?

Having said that - I am new to this, so learning as I go too!

Linda,

I think I am confused as well, That link seems to be broken and the
monitor is no long available, but I have found another link that
works. Please look below, this monitor is touch screen and the
resolution is 1920 x 1080 - there is even a youtube video of how it
works. I was just wondering if I could use my laptop and have this as
a second monitor or extended screen and have the program work, I am
not very knowledgeable on this. I look forward to the updated software
you are working on. I can't wait to use it. Let me know what I can do
to help.

Thanks
Nick

That resolution seems to be fine based on the resolution listed for the HP computer.
Again, I am just learning too so am not an expert.  This is what happened when I tried it.
When I attached my touchscreen, after I entered the "administrator" information and it was in program operational mode it worked fine from the touchscreen. I had mine connected to my laptop as an external monitor, BUT the mouse input did not work at all.  You cold only control the program from the touchscreen.  You had to exit the program to be able to do anything else on your computer.  It was all touchscreen, all the way (haven't tried the tablet) Some computers require you set up 2 displays but generally are a mirror image.  Now that I write this I do not know if you can have the laptop display on the laptop and the program display on the external monitor.  My recommendation would be make sure you buy the monitor where you can return it if it doesn't work properly.  Some places charge a restocking fee.  Also, would do some checking on the durability of a "home" touchscreen vs a point of sale monitor.  Regardless, I will probably get a protective screen from Zagg.  Since your touchscreen at 23" is slightly larger than the 20" screen on the HP computer, I wonder if there will be a border around it since you cannot resize the screen.  You may be able to do that with resolution.  My monitor doesn't go as high as the HP computer.

What about this?  http://www.touchscreens.com/products-addon.html   Anyone have an idea if this would work with the software?  It can also work with a Mac for an additional charge.  But I guess, the software would still have to be compatible for the Mac in order for the touch screen to also work.  Is there a chance that this software to be compatible with a mac?

Thanks

I have asked several people about this and no one seems to know how
well they work.
How buggy they are or how durable.
I will keep trying

Just thought I'd throw a few tidbits out there about touchscreens to
maybe help others understand how they work and what they actually are.
(in laymans terms)

A touchscreen works as a mouse input.
It works directly through the Operating System, not a particular
program.
Having the proper touchscreen drivers for a particular touchscreen
controller for a particular operating system is what will determine if
it will work or not.

A "touchsreen monitor" is nothing more than a monitor with a built in
overlay like the one pointed at above, beneath that overlay is nothing
more than a standard monitor.
I can't vouch for any particular overlay "add-on", so I would
recommend reading any reviews available on a particular you may be
looking at. I can say you would be better off with a glass overlay
versus any type of acrylic. (better scratch resistance)
So if you have Windows 7, be sure their are Windows 7 drivers for your
touchscreen. If you have a Mac, be sure there are Mac drivers for your
touchscreen. Etc, etc. (or for any touchscreen you are potentially
looking into buying)

I have several touchscreens, different sizes, different makes/
models..... I can make all of them work with this Photobooth software
as it is now. (even with the screen offset due to the resolution
issues)
Quite fun to play with actually, can be used for a lot more things
than you initially think about. (games, surfing the web, whatever)
If it's on-screen and "clickable"...... you can use a touchscreen.

I personally do not use a touch screen: higher cost and increased
likelyhood of clients breaking it due to continued poking of screen.
Instead we hard wired arcade buttons designed for that type of abuse
and are cheap. Our clients seem to like the buttons but we do have the
occasional person poking the screen. Depending on the build of the
booth, we do place our monitors behind a layer of plexi for protection.
