      Everyday, I will  post 5 words which are related to campus life as an attempt to build up our vocabulary. Don't hesitate to ask me and other members if you have trouble understanding anything. Cheers ^^

  1. Audit : to attend a course without credit. Ex: It usually cost as much to audit a course as to take it for credit
  2. Assistant professor< Associate professor< professor
  3. Call the roll :to read the names on a class roster to take attendance. Ex: I need to get to class earlier so that I will be there when Dr. Peterson calls the roll
  4. Student union : a building on campus where students can relax. Ex : Inline image 1
  5. Transcript : a printed copy of a student's grades. Ex : the admissions office requires 2 transcripts with every application

  1. Grant : funds for research or study. Ex: Thu Ly received a grant for her research in psychology
  2. Lost and found: An area on campus where items are kept for their owner to reclaim. Ex: Maybe s.one picked up your book and took it to the lost and foundInline image 1
  3. Off campus : not on university property. Ex: You should come to campus early unless you want to park off campus
  4. Placement office : the office where students receive assistance in locating employment. Ex: Several companies are interviewing students at the placement office this week.
  5. Quarter : A school term that is usually 10-12 weeks in length. Ex: You could take fewer classes next quarter.

  1. Library fine: a payment for returning books and materials after the due date. Ex:You can not get your grade report unless you pay your library fines
  2. Study lounge : a quiet area of a dorm where students can go to study. Ex: Even the study lounge is noisy in the dorm
  3. Transfer/withdraw: to leave school.
  4. Cafeteria: a restaurant where student can get food and carry their meals on tray to their tables. Ex: Let's order a pizza instead of going to the cafeteriaInline image 2
  5. Bring up: to improve ( grade). Ex: If Jack does not bring up his grades, he will not get into graduate school.
