Open Source at HERE Technologies
HERE Technologies is a global organization with over 8000 employees, 200 offices in 54 countries around world creating maps and location services for 200 countries. The Open Source Office at HERE Technologies was founded a couple of months after Nokia sold the company to a consortium of car manufactures in late 2015.
Eventhough we developed basic tools and process to handle all the OSS inquiries from our employees, we were left unhappy with current state of FOSS review tooling on the market. After reviewing more than 20 compliance solutions, we could not find anything that performed well within our continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) software development processes.
This led to us building a new tool called OSS Review Toolkit (ORT), that enables highly automated OSS reviews within CI/CD. It does this by combining a new dependency analysis tool with existing FOSS dependency and scanning tools and with the new ClearlyDefined initiative, a platform to discover, curate and share FOSS component metadata.
We would like to thank the various members of the TODO group for sharing their Open Source experiences/knowledge via presentations, whitepapers or blog posts, thus enabling our team to bootstrap our office.
