Representatives of the LDS church in Denver withdraw their application for institutional "oberserver status" in the Colorado Council of Churches, the first step to membership in the World Council of Churches. The announcement of the application caused a firestorm of complaints and letters demanding rejection due to the Mormon theology of sexually cohabiting Heavenly Father who progresses by allowing mortals to become gods. The application is withdrawn to avoid bruising the confirmation process. (6)
