- If the parents were not married to each other on the day of the birth of the registrant, it will be necessary to verify if the Portuguese parent(s) signed the original birth registration or , if not, that maternity/paternity was established by any legal means while the registrant was still a minor. Supporting documents will be required.
Previously to the scheduling of your visit to this Consulate to present the application in question, you must send by email (
consulado...@mne.pt) a scanned copy of all required documents, as well as indicating your full name of the applicant and of your Portuguese father/mother, date and place of birth.
After the analysis of the documentation sent by email, you will be informed of the day and time in which you should present yourself at this Consulate along with the original documents and valid passport.

No. Following the measures for the protection of the Covid-19 pandemic implemented by this Consulate General, only persons residing at the same address are permitted to sign a proxy at the same time (maximum of 2 persons for each power of attorney).
Yes. The power of attorney after signed before a local Notary public must be certified by the Chamber des notaires du Quebec. This certificate together with the original power of attorney must be legalized by the Consulate in order to be used in Portugal.
- If the power of attorney is not in Portuguese, it must be translated into Portuguese. If you choose to have the translation done in Quebec or in the Maritime Provinces, the translation will have to be done by an official translator. In the case of Quebec, by a translator registered with l'Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprtes agrs du Qubec (OTTIAQ) and then legalised.
- By proxy (if you choose to use the power of attorney template, you must schedule online "Notary Public" / "Certification of Documents" to authenticate the power of attorney before it is sent to Portugal);
- Document(s) proving that the personal effects were used for at least six months before the date of transfer of residence. If you cannot make such proof, you may sign a declaration of commitment stating that the goods have been for personal use for more than 6 months. - If a motor vehicle is on the list of goods, it should be identified by its vehicle identification number, model, make and registration number. Please refer to the section "Vehicle Import Certificate";
- Renseignements relatifs un dossier de permis de conduire et Confirmation d' information. You must apply for this document from Societ de l' assurance automobile du Qubec (SAAQ), which must contain the information concerning the date of issue of the first driving licence and that it was obtained by examination;
