This activity does not sync to Garmin Connect. I can see it on the watch, but no matter how many times I sync-hed the watch the acitity does not show on Garmin Connect. This is the first time this happens/
I can see there are about 193 activities in the folder (from Sept 2019 to date). I started using the 6S in June 2019. Do old activities get deleted automatically or do I need to do housekeeping? The watch (when connected to the laptop via USB) shows about 10GB free ...
I have had the same problem for 3 pool swims in a row. Garmin told me they would have to replace my Fenix 6. I thought this could be solved with a software or firmware update, but I guess not. Garmin wanted to ship me a newly overhauled device. Since it is still under warranty, I am requesting a new watch for the replacement.
Im having the same problem, press save and get the garmin triangle come up and will not sync to GC is on my watch as a daily activity but not on my history anywhere else, have tried adding the file manually but says its a corrupt file and wont add, *** thing is it was a really good swim :/
Customized for pool swimming, its unique non-slip design keeps the HRM-Swim in place during push-offs and withstands repeated exposure to pool chemicals. This HRM stores heart rate data when underwater, and sends real-time heart rate and interval summaries during rests with the HRM out of the water.
I mean, the model is obviously built for swimmers, but does it function properly? I've come across some bad viewpoints. I'm not a pro, but because I swim... Is it worthwhile to purchase this device rather than another Garmin model? Is it also capable of recognising different swimming styles?
I'm a master swimmer and I had other devices in the past (Swimmo, Poolmate, Garmin Swim 1). This is really the best I had: very precise in counting and recognizing the style. Very good also in open waters. I reccomend it
I see other people say the swim2 has problems detecting the stroke. I have a garmin 935 and it also has a problem confusing breaststroke with backstroke. Garmin tech denies that anyone else has this problem. I told them to google it. I can understand confusing any stroke with any other stroke, except back stroke. I am considering getting a swim 2, because I don't like swimming with a chest strap, and I want to get the heart rate readings even if not completely accurate. But until I hear from Garin tech that the stroke detection issue has been resolved or until I can change it manually, I don't really want to spend the money or encourage them.
I never had problems with stroke detection; when it shows a wrong stroke, means that I am tired (i.e butterfly) and my stroke is not correct. Also heart readings are quite accurate: you have to wear it rather tight to avoid bad readings
Stroke detection is ok more or less. It really depends on your technique. Another tip, if stroke detection is terrible, try with the other wrist. For me, on left wrist, everything is detected as breaststroke, on the right everything is perfect.
In my opinion, from Garmin point of view the stroke detection is good. Note, that they should guess from the arm movement, and they do not see a full path but only some accelerations and decelerations.
This watch has a technological drawback: I have been swimming regularly for over 15 years and have been using the Swimm 2 for 8 months swimming in the 25m pool, 1000-2000m freestyle and 100-200 breaststroke. Once in 10 workouts, the Swimm 2 watch will tell you the correct distance, and most often it "loses" from 1 to 3 or even 4 pools! Besides, it has problems with the correct recognition of the swimming style: classic and freestyle mixes with backstroke! Sometimes Swimm 2 will add additional pools - I have had one additional pool added two or three times. Garmin's technical support has been saying for 8 months that my swimming style is a problem, that I make uncontrolled and uncoordinated movements, that I swim at an uneven pace, that my stroke cadence is too low, that I have a wrong turn, etc. They advise me to wear Swimm 2 on the second wrist to set the correct pool length and the appropriate units / meters not different / - for 8 months they have been treating me like an imbecile giving such advice! I have already had two exchanges of this Swimm 2 product and the third watch shows the same disadvantages: it mostly leaves 1 to 4 pools at 40-60 swims and that's the first 200 meters! He usually reports the rest of the distance correctly. Its other activity and fitness tracking functions work fine, although sometimes the GPS does not record your bike or running route very accurately: the path may run a few meters alongside! Apart from these swimming disadvantages, it's OK - but it's a smartwatch for swimmers! It is Absurd!
I think that Garmin technical support is correct; I'm using Swim2 since one year and half and it is very precise; the only mistakes happen when you did not a good turn or when you change style in the middle of the pool. But swimming and turning correctly, it is working perfectly, much more better than Poolmate or Swimmo I had before
Do you think 1 to 4 pools are wrong with my style and turn, and the other 54 to 59 are correct? :) And so with every training for 8 months? :) I never change the style and pace in the middle of the track! Such allegations, comments from Garmin support are nonsense!
I push off the wall a lot and slide at least 5 meters. The arm with the watch starts to move second, only somewhere at 6 meters. Also, if I had a weak wall push, it would be weaker with distance, not at the beginning of the distance / and Swimm 2 counting and jamming errors always occur in the first to eight pools! / Wall push off is not a problem! The problem is the technology in this model!
So I've noticed this question being asked online by people who had the VA3 or similar, but not yet for the 4s. When I'm done swimming and try to stop and save the activity, I get stuck in a loop. When I press the button to confirm stopping and saving I just get taken back to the activity. I can add laps and switch to rest mode, but the activity doesn't quit. I've tried taking off my watch in rest mode, on the saving activity screen and on the lap screen in the idle hope that the watch would get the hint and just save and quit on its own, but that was 2 hours ago and we're still counting.
Garmin reserves the right to provide you the finest product available to date. Engineering enhancements are ongoing and may not be reflected in the pictures, videos, support content and specifications.
The Pool Swim activity profile can be used when recording swims in a pool. The Open Water Swim profile uses GPS and can be used when swimming in an outdoor body of water such as an ocean, lake, or river. Great blog, went swimming with my new 310xt this morning, and it told me Id done 5km in 39mins!! and when I looked at the track on google earth I was swimming on the beach haha (gave my tri club a good laugh. Will try again with it on my head tommorow rather than on my wrist.
Once again, kudos on the excellent job reviewing. Your blog has helped me make the tough decision of buying my first training GPS that much more simple. And the helpful tips to maximize the use of my Garmin for multi-sport is invaluable. I wonder what we did before the internet?
How long would you recommend swimming with it when you have it in a Ziploc bag? My swims would be about 1 hr to 1.5 hrs in the pool, maybe with some flip-turns thrown in. Would that make a difference?
I have a slight problem I have followed all your advise about the 305 forerunner in the water but all it did was time it. I had no heart rate or distance covered. I was outdoors and swam in the sea to a distance of 1.4km (which i already knew). i noticed that whe i got out of the water i was reading my heart rate it just didnt record it. Now I have my first tri of the year on friday (14/1/11) and i want this to work properly. Can you help!
Really great post, Thank you for sharing This knowledge.Excellently written article, if only all bloggers offered the same level of content as you, the internet would be a much better place. Please keep it up!
Im about to do my first tri and wanted to wear my 310xt during the whole race to se my overall time (the distance of the swim is not that important). Were do you usually have the watch during a race? Since I have the quick release kit its quite bulky, is it a good idea to have it under the wetsuit? Will it fit? Drawbacks on time?
Hello! I have found very useful your tips. I am also a triathlete and I would also like to find useful my Garmin on this sport. I have just purchased the Forerunner 410 unit, with a heart rate monitor. I have always used polar units that worked perfectly underwater displaying heartrate information, but unfortunately, this feature did not work with my Garmin 410, as it gets disabled as soon as the unit goes underwater.. Is it supposed to happen or there is something I must check? Thanks a lot!
1 meter immersion implies STATIC immersion. If you make too much sudden movements (in the extreme, dive), water pressure will increase exponentially during that brief moment of time. Do not swim with devices like the 305. in the long(er) run, you WILL break it.
I was in the process of buying a 910 purely for the swimming discipline but reading posts on the garmin 910 forum about issues with this watch then I may hold off buying it and even consider a garmin swim purely for counting laps in the pool although I believe there are issues with this as well.
2 Questions:
1. Do you think there is any difference between thickness of caps? Are some GPS signal repellent?
2. Would you also place the watch at the some position of you would do breast strokes? (I am an early beginner)
If you use a 910XT under the swim cap, do you keep the strap on? Also, do you secure the watch with a string? And my final question, have you ever lost a watch in a race/training because of the swim cap method?
