News #1 from the Tobac Developers Meeting

Dear tobac friends,

on last Friday, we had a very productive tobac developers meeting with participants from Oxford, TTU, CSU, ANL & TROPOS (and DB ;-)).


Development Future

• an intermediate tobac version v1.5 is planned for May 2022 incl.

• optimization
• improved 3D capabilities
• better coverage of docstrings
• an updated CI framework using GH actions

• a next major release to version v2.0 is envisioned for end of 2022 incl.
  

• sophisticated TINT framework (merging + splitting)
• a general switch to `xarray` in the core of tobac
• and even more improved docs
• expanded unit testing
• new tobac-tutorials using synthetic test data as simple examples

• roadmap is already there, but needs to be updated (esp. w.r.t. far-future goals), see https://github.com/fsenf/tobac-roadmap/blob/master/tobac-roadmap-main.md
  

Communication & Exchange

• regular developers meetings

• once a month
• each 2nd Fri at 3pm (local Oxford time - incl. daylight saving timeshift)
• the next meeting is at Feb 11, 2022
  

• news letters

• I will do my best to summarize to developers outcome in regular news letters (at least four per year, that's see...)

• communication path ways

• google groups for tobac, tobac-developers & tobac-users have been set up (Thanks to Bhupendra!)
• the googledocs https://docs.google.com/document/d/1V3nQDniRx2m70yMsh-ONpHhTypeqRj3UiwKoApeaABU/edit holds meeting notes and is used for checking action items
