Hello Everyone,
Only two weeks until Tahoe!! And of course eight weeks until STP.
1. This weekend's ride.
2. Ride directions.
3. Be careful riding on Sunday.
4. Last team ride of the season.
5. Send off party.
6. Get that bike tuned.
7. Next week's workout schedule.
1. This Sunday's ride (not Saturday) on 5/20 will be 80 miles from Natural Bridges in Santa Cruz. It will be an out and back to San
Gregorio. There will be some hills going out and rollers on the return. I'm hoping for sunny weather, spectacular views and tailwinds on the return to Natural Bridges.
Weather.com is forecasting a low of 51 and a hi of 69 in Santa Cruz and 51/64 in San Gregorio on Sunday. That means dress in layers. That means hydrate. That means bring your energy drinks. That means wear your sunscreen. That means pace yourself.
Try to get everything ready on Saturday night. Have a nice dinner Saturday night and a good breakfast Sunday morning. You should be getting to the point where you know what works (foods and drinks) and what doesn't work. Remember that the food you've been eating during the season may not be there in Tahoe and/or STP.
2. The ride will start from Natural
Bridges in Santa Cruz. Please carpool if possible.
From 17: Take Highway 17 South toward Santa Cruz. Exit Highway 1 North (towards Half Moon Bay). Highway 1 becomes Mission St. after about 3/4 mile. Keep right at Mission St. Pass Bay St and turn LEFT at Almar ave. (large intersection, Safeway). Turn Right at Delaware Ave. Keep going through several stop signs to Natural Bridges Drive and Delaware Ave. The back entrance is on the left. There is abundant street parking.
3. Be careful riding on Sunday. There are railroad tracks near the town of Davenport. Walk your bikes across the tracks! In addition, ride as far right of the road as possible. There are a couple of stretches of this ride where there isn't a lot of shoulder. Don't force your own teammates into the road. As this is the
last team ride before Tahoe, don't be wild on the descents.
4. I can't emphasize more the importance of attending this ride especially if you missed the 70 miler. Attending the rides allows you to get among other things valuable advice from your coach, paceline practice and the energy of riding with your group. If you've been missing most of the rides this season, there's a possibility that you won't be allowed to ride with your group at the event. This is done purely for safety reasons and not as a punishment. If you have questions about this, please contact your group coach or myself.
5. The send-off party for the team will be on Wednesday 5/23 at Shoup Park in Los Altos at 6:30 pm. You should have received an evite for this event.
Please attend! If you can't attend, make arrangements with someone else to pick up your packet.
6. If you're having any mechanical problems with your bike, now is the time to get it tuned. Waiting until Saturday night before the event is NOT the time. The person we recommend is Master Mechanic Tom Jelmyer of Velo Tech cycles. For contact information, check out their website at http://www.velotechcycles.com/contact.html 7.
