Hello Everyone,

Once again, the forecast calls for really good weather this weekend. Get out there and ride. Or at least get out there and enjoy the great outdoor weather.

Congratulations to all of those who completed the Wildflower or Napa Valley Triathlons last weekend. For many of you, it was your first triathlon. For some of you, was it your last?

I'd like to give special recognition to three racers from last weekend. Nicholas Rice-McDonald completed the long course (that's 1/2 Ironman distance) at Wildflower. Coach Andy Miner successfully defended his age group title at Napa. Andy's bike split was 8th fastest of the 231 men who competed. Darlene Frie's bike split at Napa was 31st of the 294 women who competed. I guess that bike training this season paid off.

1. Portola Valley ride recap.
2. This weekend's buddy ride.
3. Please attend the next team ride! You don't want to ride alone at the event.
4. STP riders - try to ride Saturday and Sunday.
5. Silicon Valley Tour De Cure on Sunday June 10th.
6. Next week's workout schedule.

1. Last Saturday's ride is what you can expect in Tahoe. Cool to cold weather in the morning & warming through the day, a hill at the start & the end and flats to rollers in the middle. Of course the views will be much better in Tahoe.

The three loop Portola Ride allows each group to see each other when they are completing and starting a loop. This allowed me to see how groups were riding out there. I was very pleased to see people pacelining and sticking together. I know we're in training. But it's called Team In Training. Well done out there.

2. This Saturday's buddy ride on 5/12 will start from Don Edwards Reserve in Fremont. Meet at 7:45 am and roll at 8:00 am for this ride of 70 miles. This ride will cover a lot of the Calaveras ride. If you enjoyed that ride, come on out. Contact Coach Erich Sonnberger at erich_so...@yahoo.com with any questions about the ride.

Buddy ride rules apply. That means be self sufficient. Kip is a great guy. But he won't be out there having SAG for us.

3. Our next team ride will be our 80 miler from Santa Cruz on Sunday May 20th. This will be our longest and last team ride before Tahoe. I will say it again. It is very important that you attend. If you haven't been riding with your group this season, you might not be allowed to ride with your group in Tahoe or Seattle to Portland. This is for safety reasons and not as a punishment.

4. Seattle to Portland is two months away. If you're riding this great event, you should start getting in the habit of cycling both Saturday and Sunday. Not only do you have to get physically prepared, you have to get mentally prepared to ride both days.

If Saturday is your big ride day, you should be cycling 60%-80% of your Saturday mileage on Sunday. This is dependent upon on how much you've been cycling, your fitness level and your efforts the previous day.

5. The week after Tahoe is the Silicon Valley Tour De Cure bike ride. Use that fitness you've gained to complete another bike ride and help another charity. Register for the ride at http://tour.diabetes.org/site/TR?pg=entry&fr_id=4406. Details for the ride are at http://www.civex.com/tour/. You can also contact mentor Bob Corman at bobc...@gmail.com.
