Hello friends and colleagues, old and new,

Many of you may know that I am living in Nashville and run an organic clothing business with my sister, ASK Apparel and Artisan Natural Dyeworks , an ecofriendly textile dye service. But, I also helped start and continue to help run an amazing urban farm, Nashville Urban Harvest. Our non-profit has been helping start a school garden at Glencliff High School in South Nashville.

We really need your 3 votes this weekend in order to win a grant of $5000!

Here are more details:

Over the past year, Nashville Urban Harvest and Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s  Hospital at Vanderbilt have been working closely with Glencliff High School and various community partners to build a school garden designed to improve health and well-being and enhance educational opportunities among GHS and the surrounding community.  This school  garden has the potential to make an incredible impact on the health and wellness of Glencliff High School and its surrounding community by promoting sustainable agriculture, improving education through hands-on experiences, impacting health and wellness, and more!  For more information on this project, see http://vanderbiltchildrens.org/interior.php?mid=7760

We have made a lot of progress including creating a Glencliff Garden Advisory Committee to provide oversight and guidance to the project, a weekly Garden Club for students to get hands-on experience with garden tasks such as building compost bins, mixing soil, building soil blocks, planting seedlings, cutting sod, etc., secured various donations and volunteers, hired a Farm Manager to help maintain the garden and work with teachers to link the garden to Garden Club, Ecology classes, etc., cultivated ¼ land by planting items various herbs, tomatoes, potatoes, squash, peppers, etc., and assisted 3 Glencliff High  School students in writing grants to support the Glencliff Garden.  However, to continue the successes of this project, WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!

I'm happy to say that we have just been chosen as one of the competitors in the Project Fund Grant competition but we need your help in winning this $5,000 grant!  Please take the time today to vote on our project.  It explains more about the project in our proposal.  Please click on this link to sign up for the website and vote today for Glencliff High School Soil Rejuvenation. You can vote a total of three times in the next 14 days.  The objective of the Project Fund Grant is to increase the dialogue about climate change.  By teaching the students to be self-sufficient in the growing and procurement of food we will allow them to be less dependent on fossil fuels because we will not be using  petroleum based fertilizers and relying on heavy fuel dependent food distribution channels.

We really need your votes (you can vote 3 times in a row!) as well as your support in getting the word out about this project!  Please pass the link on to your friends. We really appreciate your comments and suggestions on the proposal as well.
