If you support urban chickens in Nashville, please take action on this by tomorrow!
Getting chickens last fall was one of the best things that I have done in my adult life. My boyfriend is allergic to cats and we are both too annoyed by other folks barking dogs to consider on of our own. :) We had a big yard and wanted some extra fertilizer for our garden, plus fresh eggs every day were a major draw. I swear now to not get another animal unless they also create some kind of useful food or fiber product! I am willing to go as far as saying you will never know culinary happiness until you walk out your backdoor to get an egg for your breakfast.
Plus, how great would it be to teach all of the student and youth groups that come out to visit the community farm one more layer of our food system, simply by having a few laying hens at the garden?
The metro council people seriously need to hear from some pro-chicken supporters because they make these decisions based on what they hear from their constituents!
Thank you so much for your help.
Cheers,
Sarah

Metro council is considering a bill that would regulate and permit keeping chickens in Nashville. Tuesday night is the second vote and there will be opportunity for public comment at the council meeting.
If, like me, you believe that people in Nashville should be able to keep a limited number of chickens or other fowl as long as they are clean, well-cared for, and at appropriate distance from neighboring property, please show support for this bill. In recent years, many cities across the country have come to recognize the health benefits, economic value, and educational potential of urban agriculture, and many cities have enacted similar laws allowing for urban poultry within appropriate restrictions. Nashville should do the same.
