Hello Friends of Local Farming!
We wanted to drop you a line to tell you about our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) and also make you aware that it is NOT too late to sign up. As a matter of fact, we actually planned for a few more hundred members this year and are geared up (and paying) for that additional infrastructure but the members have not materialized. Every year we get people that didn’t realize that they can still sign up even after the season starts… so we’re sending this out to make sure you know that it's not too late to join!
When your family participates in our CSA, the food is the best tasting you can get. The harvests have been good, lately we've had English and Oregon Sweet Peas, Strawberries, Radishes, Green Onions, Varieties of Lettuce, Carrots, Broccoli, Cauliflower, New Potatoes, Mustard and Turnip Greens, Beets... and some herbs such as garlic scapes, sage and mints. We're going to be getting into some more beets, squash, cucumbers, green beans, carrots, blueberries etc.
Please click here for our registration form. If that doesn't work, go to our website on the "CSA" tab and "Sign Me Up" for the form.
Our season runs for 20 more weeks with no breaks. This will wrap up the season in late October. We have delivery locations all over greater Nashville. Please see our website at www.avalon-acres.com where we have blogs of the farm and for recipes to cook your food. You can meet our staff and get all your questions anwered about who we are.
We are a Christian company that prides itself on being a responsible steward of this earth. All our stuff is all-natural, though we are not "certified organic." We are focused on raising animals with no extra junk in minimally confined settings and with respect and dignity and humane treatment. Our veggies are raised with an emphasis on sustainable growing methods with minimal pesticide use. We try and use natural pest control methods wherever possible. Belonging to a CSA is a great way to support your local farmer and keep your food dollars in Tennessee. Fanny Yoder and her daughters provide our Amish baked goods and they are absolutely amazing. All this is produced here in Tennessee.
On average, when you shop at Kroger, your food travels 1500 miles to get to your table and NINE cents of your dollar goes to the farmer... if you by from us the farmer receives over FIFTY cents of every dollar and you get a much better tasting, fresher and healthier product. There are many more reasons to support local small farming.
If you have any questions you can e-mail our customer service person, Angel, an...@avalon-acres.com or call her at 931-628-3938
Thanks again for your dedicated support in preserving small farming as a way of life. If you have any other LISTSERVES or BULLETIN BOARDS you belong to, or have an extensive e-mail list of people you know that might be interested in supporting us, please pass the word.
Sincerely,
Tim Bodnar
