If you are a Southern region producer passionate about sustainable agriculture and its role in the environment and rural communities, you have an opportunity to serve a 3-year term on our Administrative Council. You can also nominate a farmer/producer. Read on for more details.

 

 

Southern SARE Seeks Administrative Council Producer Nominations

 

Deadline: July 1, 2011

 

GRIFFIN, Ga. -- The Administrative Council (AC) of the Southern Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program is seeking one producer to join the Council for a three-year term beginning February 2012.

 

Self nominations are welcomed.

 

Nominees must be familiar with sustainable agriculture and its impact on the environment and rural communities.  Nominees representing women in agriculture, minorities and farm laborers are especially welcome.

 

The Administrative Council is the governing body of the Southern SARE program and is made up of seven producers, three NGO representatives, one agribusiness representative, one quality of life representative and a number of 1862, 1890, federal and state governmental agency representatives.

 

The Administrative Council depends on outstanding nominees that you and your colleagues from across the region may put forward, including self nominations.  We strongly encourage you to invest the effort required to advance good nominees. 

 

The new Council members will serve a three-year term beginning in February 2012.  Duties of the Administrative Council include attendance at two council meetings each year, February and August.  Each meeting is expected to last two days.  Administrative Council members read and review proposals and make funding decisions on all Southern SARE grants awarded each year.  Read for more details about the AC and the process, roles and responsibilities. 

 

Criteria for Administrative Council appointment include the following:

1. Experience in the area of sustainable agriculture;

2. Demonstrated ability and willingness to help address sustainable agriculture needs and methods;

3. Ability to work effectively as a team member dealing with contemporary issues facing agriculture.

 

If you are interested in applying or nominating someone for a position on the SSARE AC, please send us your/their name, postal address, phone number and email address and the AC position applied for.  We will send you/them an invitation to apply for a position and the link to the Southern Region SARE On-Line AC Application System. 

 

Only applications received on the SSARE On-Line AC Application System will be considered. 

 

Criteria you should consider before nominating someone are:

1. The nominee’s ability to work collaboratively to address sustainable agriculture needs;

2. The person’s interest in and contributions to sustainable agriculture;

3. The person’s teamwork capabilities;
