Hi all,
I haven't been able to figure out how to create a waste-to-resource
network at the Sustain Door website, so I thought I would at least
begin by listing LMWS's items and needs here. Dave or anyone else, if
you have an idea about how to make this happen in a better way, please
take initiative. Thanks!

Lake Michigan Wind & Sun has these items which are potential resources
for your business:

large sheets of mostly pretty clean brown corrugated cardboard (solar
panel packaging). some are triple thickness. I use some whole pieces
for mulch in landscaping to kill patches of weeds. We have also used
the triple thick for making displays for tabling, etc.

used motor oil (could be burned for fuel - yuck)

small ziplock bags (not food grade)

Lake Michigan Wind & Sun could use from your scrap heaps:

one sided scrap paper, 8.5" X 11", that is in good enough shape to run
through a printer/photocopy machine

coffee grounds

Ann,

You are right on track using the business forum! You could also post
this to the Sustain Door Discussions, of which you, me, Virge and I are
the only members.

We could great yet another Google-Group discussion forum (bulletin
board) for just this purpose, but the whole point in to get enough
people signed up that they are participating and sharing ideas. As long
as we have nine members in our NTS Business forum, it is a great way to
start.

One additional help, regarding our website being used to keep everyone
informed, would be to add an "Announcements" page, just for up-coming
events and new ideas like this one cropping up, to get everybody aware
as soon as they land on the site.

Regarding the swaps:

I would love to get my hands on a couple more of those triple thick
cardboard sheets!

I wonder how motor oil would work in a Betty Lamp. We have three or
four antique versions which Renny's mom collected. They are very
practical little lamps, build to hook on the back of a chair or other
household object to provide light in dark corners or for up close work.
They work with bacon grease or any other animal or vegetable oil. I
wouldn't use motor oil in the antiques, but they are easily reproducible
with such good examples at hand. They can be used outdoors, but have no
shielding. They could come in useful some day!

We always have a bucket of coffee grounds going out of Sweetie Pies
every month. Do you mind if the coffee filters are included? I presume
the aim is compost, right?

Hi - First, let me disclaim any actual knowledge. Having said that, I
understand that used motor oil contains toxic substances, including
heavy metals, and that burning it creates more and more dangerous, air
pollution than burning ordinary oil.

Dave,
Two triple thick cardboard sheets are yours. Let's figure out how to
get them to you.
I'll take your coffee grounds anytime it's convenient for you to haul
them to me. You could bring them to our next meeting. But, don't you
use them for compost? The filters are okay, especially if they are
the unbleached kind.
I sure wouldn't burn used motor oil in the house. We know someone in
Manitowoc who has an oil burner for heating his house; I thought I
heard he uses used oil, but if what Dana says is true (and I don't
doubt it is), I guess it would be better to recycle it. A used oil
handler can maybe refine the oil in some way that makes it less
problematic.

An announcements page could be useful. Go ahead and create it, if you
desire, Dave.
I was hoping there would be a way to make a sort of spreadsheet with
all the resources listed and the contact person. Trying to list stuff
on the forum seems cumbersome to me. It's not all in one place; a
person would have to scroll around and search each entry.
Blessings,
Ann
