Hi, I'm a big fan of authors like Charles Dickens. But now I've read all
of his books I'm searching for other authors that write like him,
contemporary or not. May be, some of you have intersting insights.

You can e-mail me on mar...@iname.com

Also information on when the new John Grisham book is released is very
welcome.
Thanks

It depends on what you like about Dickens, if you like dense writing than
maybe try

Thomas Hardy: Tess of the Du'rbervilles (I think I got that right)

If you want poverty and hardship try

Victor Hugo: Les Miserables

Either way, both of these books are great and should be read.

Brett.

BTW, on Grisham, I have enjoyed his earlier movies but hated the
predicatable
'Ginger Bread man'. I dont usually read modern authors, but I have a copy of

'The Partner' at home. Would you recommend that I read this?

If you like Dickens, you'd definitely like contemporary American writer John
Irving. He's a Dickens' disciple, and his work reminds me a great deal of
Dickens'. I highly recommend "The World According to Garp," "Cider House
Rules," and "A Prayer for Owen Meaney." Best wishes, Gray

If you try reading John Irving, definitely read, "The 158-Pound Marriage."
Very interesting and very good.

Hello,
I'm Chrissie, and an avid admirer of Thomas Hardy.
Would anybody like to discus his life and works?
I consider him to be THE greatest, and one of the most enegmatic writers, in
English Literature.
His greatest nove, in my opinion is: "The Major of Casterbridge".
But why did he allow Michael Henchard to die?
An enegmatic question!
I have my own theories regarding the death of Michael Henchard, but would be
most interested to learn of other Thomas Hardy admirers pionts of view,
regarding Henchard's death.
Chrissie.

I too have read 'Tess', and though it was excellent, obviously you would
recommend "The Major of Casterbridge" as my next read?,
especially since you regard it as 'His greatest nove'!!

You should give Wilkie Collins's The Woman in White and The Moonstone a try,
especially if you enjoyed reading Bleak House and whodunnits.
