Hello Recent Rock Creek Park Volunteers,
It feels like spring is taking forever to get here. It will soon be upon us. One of our goals this year is to increase visitor services through out the park. I want to thank you for your previous efforts in being a major part of our public presence. I was hoping you would consider helping with one of the upcoming events or projects.
- May 16: International Migratory Bird Day. We have lost the support of the zoo this year (they are doing there own event the week before). We could use help with the craft table, welcome tent, front desk...
- Pokey's Egg Day and Hatch Day. Pokey is turning 20 this year. We are celebrating Egg day (June 20) and Hatch Day (August 26). On both of these days we plan to have a series of programs, contests, games, events and cake. Leading up to the celebration Pokey will travel the Park. You can travel with him and show him to the masses.
- 125th Anniversary. Rock Creek Park turns 125 this year. We will be engaging the public and discussing the last 125 years of Rock Creek Park. We will also be finding out what visitors believe the park will look like in the next 125 years.
- June 6. National Trails Day
- September 26. Public Lands Day
- September 27. Rock Creek Park Day
- Ranger Camps and or education programs.
- Front Desk Coverage. Yarnetta Jones was recently brought in to provide full time coverage of the front desk. Her duties will soon expand and there will be gaps in front desk coverage. We also have several days in the near future where we have mandatory training. It would be very helpful to have volunteer assistance on those days.
- Volunteers Choice. If there are other projects or activities you are interested in please let me know.
Thank you so much and I hope to see you soon.
