Hello.

I use Cygwin and use Tmux with it. All was working fine until I needed to install another application on Cygwin, which erased my previous configurations for Tmux and it is now working with the default values.

The issue with this is that I do not remember what I did to solve a problem that now has returned: it does not accept some characters. I am a native brazillian Portuguese speaker and cannot use characters such as é, á, à, ã, õ, ç…. And all of them are common to my language. The weird part is that Cygwin supports it, as I can type those characters normally, but tmux is not working anymore and it was working, check a print I took when everything was fine:

Words like escritório, criará and empréstimos, which all have accents, are working normally.

Can someone explain to me how to I get it working again on Tmux? Thanks in advance

What do you mean it doesn't accept them? What does it do?

Does it work if you run "tmux -u attach"?

Hello Nicholas, thanks for the prompt answer. Below, you’ll see what I mean:

  1. If I open Cygwin, I can normally enter characters like é é ã ç à, like you can see below on the left window
  2. The moment I issue the command tmux, I cannot enter these characters anymore. If I press they keys ‘~’ and ‘a’, that would result on the character ã, it inserts a pound symbol (#) and jumps to the next line.
  3. If I press the key ‘´’ and then the key ‘e’, which would result in the character é, it does actually nothing

I’ve tried to issue the tmux command with -u argument before, but the same issue happens; trying tmux -u attach, as you mentioned, but these special latin chars do not work whatsoever.

If you do

tmux kill-server
tmux -vv -f/dev/null new

Then type the problem keys then exit tmux, it will leave a tmux-server*. log file in the current directory. Please show me this file.

Hello again, Nicholas.

For some reason, now that I ran again the command tmux it just worked as it should from the beginning, check out a print from my screen now:

As you can see, on 1 I have a tag defined that contains the name “Soluções” and both ‘ç’ and ‘õ’ are there. Also, on 2 I tested some inputs and they are just working. I’m not sure what’s going on, but I did nothing out of the ordinary, just exited and re-entered Cygwin and tmux for the 10th or so time
