How do you bind the tilde key?

I previously had:

bind-key ~ <command>

to bind the tilde key to a command. But with the current version it no longer works. I yields an unknown key error, due to it expanding the tilde to my home directory. How do I get around this, or would this be considered a bug?

Did you try using single quotes?

$ tmux bind -n '~' run -b xterm
