Networking Walk through of TMS
A technician from Lanier completed a walk through today to determine
how best to ensure that all classrooms and faculty lounge have network
connectivity. We looked at several options for the school.
Option A Install 2 data drops on 2 walls of each of the upstairs
classrooms
Install 2 data drops on 1 wall of downstairs room
Install 2 data drops in the teachers' lounge
Install a larger patch panel
Place server on a dedicated power line
Option B Install 1 data drop in room 14
Install 1 data drop in room 13
Install 1 data drop in downstairs room
Install 1 data drop in faculty lounge
Note: Data drops are the holes in which you plug in the Internet
cable. The entire job would take at the most a day or day and half to
complete. If we went with option A, TMS would have hardwiring on both
sides of the room. This gives teachers more flexibility in arranging
their rooms. Also, with 2 data drops, if one drop goes bad, a teacher
can simply use the 2nd drop. Also, the current network cable in the
faculty lounge does not work.
We are currently in negotiations with the president of Lanier and will
hopefully know by late this evening whether his company will be able
to complete the wiring at TMS. This particular company is also
responsible for the wiring of all public schools in Prince George's
County. They are extremely busy this time of year completing the
wiring in county schools, but may be able to assist us in time for our
opening on Monday.

I would like to extend my thanks to you, Al and everyone who helped with
this. Previously, I had scheduled to meet with Mr. Greening but needed to
cancel both times.
I received your email and will call to today for an overview.
Thanks again,
Jim Golden
