Same thing here:

"The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Jaring', Server:
'smtp.jaring.my', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error:
535, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E"

Looks like we have to activate the roaming service (RM10.00 per month) in
order to send mail. Is there another way? Can the experts help please?

I think there is nothing wrong. It happens sometimes. When you cannot send
mails just go to tools>send & receive mail>receive all and click on it.
Then send your mails. It works for me.

I read sometime back a post here saying there was a notice posted in jaring
website to use this method, way back in January 2003. I think the notice is
no more there.

I have read the Jaring announcement which I copy below.

***
"Subject : SMTP Authentication for Roaming Subscribers.

1. This message is addressed to JARING Roaming subscribers who use
JARING SMTP servers (smtp.jaring.my) to send out e-mail.

2. Effective from 4th August, 2003, JARING Roaming subscribers will
have to use SMTP Authentication in order to send out their email
through JARING SMTP servers. This is to replace the existing method
because the new method is more simple and secure.

3. Thus, subscribers who are connected directly to JARING network
will not be affected and can use JARING SMTP servers as usual.

4. Subscribers need to make configuration at their client software to
enable smtp authentication .

5. For details on SMTP Authentication and how to make configuration at
client software , please refer to :
http://www.jaring.my/corporate/roaming/smtpauth.html

6. Thank You.

JARING Network Operation Center"
***

Note that it refers to Roaming subscribers. I presume that many like me have
not activated roaming. Doing so incurs a charge of RM10.00 per month.

Before I activate roaming, I have set up my account for smtp authentication
as per Jaring's recommendation. Problem is that now I am receiving all
messages that have been sent several days before, including some that have
not been deleted from my mailbox. However, I still cannot send mail out.

My question is, must I activate roaming? I don't want to spend that RM 10.00
and still not be able to send my mail.

it is not that no one seem to read Jaring's announcement.

in the announcement, jaring was silent on those streamyx
users who are still using their jaring account to collect
and send email address.

jaring has done away with the old method of retrive and
then send mail. and in its place has set up smtp
authentication for roaming users. since it has set
up authentication, why have it for roaming users only?
since now jaring can check users using their smtp
servers, they should allow their users to send via their
smtp servers no matter which isp their users use.

Ok, I'll ask the obvious question (cc'd to noc who will probably ignore me).

Does "JARING Roaming subscribers" include those of us who have Jaring
accounts that we access through Streamyx? In effect we are roaming.

(By the way - has anyone tested this? I just had a go & get the following:
334 535 5.7.9 authentication failed)

Runbox.com in Norway.

And it works with Streamyx to send and receive.

With e.g. Pegasus you can still retrieve email from Jaring and send
out through smtp.runbox.com if you use username and password
authentication for sending out mail through their smtp server.

With Eudora you would have to keep to runbox only if you use
Streamyx since Eudora does not permit separate username for in and
out mail.. Pegasus allows that.

You can try Runbox for a month free of charge. Costs is around 30US
= 10 RM per month. Lower if 3 years subscription.

Maximum mail box size = 100 MByte and 200 MByte if you sign up for
3 years.

Free spam and virus check on mail in their mailboxes.

I have had it for around half a year and so far always works.

I have now tried Postcast and Advanced Mail server. Both free local
SMTP servers and found that it works less and less and less for
each day. More and more invisible spaghetti labyrinth rules for
SMTP sending on more and more ISP:s. Postcast on some machines
make email disappear without a trace in spite of lots of security
features and notification rules etc. It just does not work in
todays more complicated STMP internet systems.

The Advanced Mail Server is a joke. Almost no settings. It plain
simply does not work on most machines, nowadays.

These local SMTP softwares were designed to function in the last
century only.

But runbox so far no problem. Functions with Jaring, Tm.net,
Streamyx with sending only or both receiving sending.

All the best and hope it helps / Adam T.

You can still use the TMNet smtp server - no real problem here, as
long as the server doesn't fall over (which it often does).

>Any solutions to this beside donated RM10.00 to Jaring??

That won't be an option for me - Jaring gets none of my money if I can
help it.

A few choices:

1) Use TMNet smtp server.
2) Set up your own smtp server.
3) Buy an ISP-independent account so it doesn't matter which ISP you
dial through, and gradually move all your contacts over to the new
account, then tell Jaring where to shove it.

I'm a low end user so spam always outnumbers real mail for me. Jaring's been
ok for me, and they are just trying to get back some lost income (remember
we paid 1?? sen per minute of access, now nothing) but I feel RM10.00 is a
bit much.

Option 3 sounds good. What's it cost?

I've been reading posts re Mozilla 1.4 so maybe now's the time to change
engines and addresses (sigh! after 15+ years with the old address).

I just got off the phone with JARING Techinical.....
They explained to me the reason that we cannot send email from Streamyx line
after Jaring enable the smtp server
authentication is due to problem at TMnet side.

I was able to send email at about 1:41 am this morning.....the technician
told me it has nothing to do with enabling the global roaming.
I will cancel my Jaring account if they charge me 10.00 RM/month just to
send out email from their server with roaming enable.
24.00 RM per annum for the mail box I can except....but 10.00/month just to
send out email? No way......

So now, TMnet(Total Moron net) seems to have the problem solved.
We can send out mail thru Jaring server with smtp server authentication.

It's not nothing - they are still getting RM20/annum. How much of your time
is spent sending emails? I am a heavy user, but I'm probably only connected
to the email server for outgoing mail for 1 or 2 minutes per day. At 1 sen
per minute, that's only RM8/annum! :-)
If you can't use smtp remotely any more, then it's a waste of time paying the
20 ringgit annually.

I use nerraw, but there are other options - techbyte maybe. Not sure about
how to use smtp through these 2, as I use uucp at the moment.

Any more details on this? Pegasus doesn't give a whole lot of
information on why sending fails, so I just had a go sending using
Outlook Express. I get the following:

Server: 'smtp.jaring.my'. Protocol: SMTP. Cannot resolve PTR record
for 219.94.116.xx
(where xx matches the last 2 digits of my public IP address).

If I enable authentication I get a different error:
'550 5.7.1 Access denied"

If I enable "Secure Password Authentication" I still get the same
error as just above.

So, I'm talking to the Jaring smtp server, but it's not letting me
send. What does TMNet have to change to allow us to send?

Sounds more like a Jaring problem than a TMNet problem to this

according to my error log:

3856 8:0.0 Dialog: "Can't send to 'xx...@hotpop.com'. The server
gives this reason: '550 5.7.1 <xx...@hotpop.com>... Relaying denied.

so it seem to be a name lookup thing. so when is tmnet going
to do something about this ip name lookup thing??

who are we suppose to approach with about this problem and do they
care??

i have also tried to register a mail account with www.myrealbox.com
while on streamyx. the registration failed becoz www.myrealbox.com
could not do a ip name lookup to my ip number.

but since jaring is using smtp ***authentication*** does it matter
if the ip name lookup fail?? if my email client can give the correct
username/password pair to the smtp server, it means that i am a jaring
user, so why need the ip name lookup?

If you're using Mac OS X u might want to try one of the open source mail

well, I called Jaring CRMC a week ago.

Well, Jaring implement new policy which is, jaring email cant send out if u
r
using another isp to connect. Mean that, we cant use smtp.jaring.my for
outgoingmail server, but, must use smtp.stremyx.com. And, under email
address, must use streamyx address & under reply address only can put our
jaring address.

Most webhosting company in Malaysia is already offering this for RM200
a year.

Any reliable ones that include an SMTP server? I'm currently with
Nerraw for my incoming email, but they don't have an SMTP server - I'd
like something that allows me 100% ISP independence.

My company is subscribed to a webhosting + email package in Emerge now.
They are running on IceWarp Email Server.
The service is so far so good. But once in a while, the routing has problems
on the TMnet side, although a minor one.
Go to www.webhosting.com.my for details.

Ok, I will - I had a quick look, but couldn't see any mention of SMTP
servers...
