Like some others I am at my wits end trying to figure out why my product is not working correctly at customers with Fujitsu scanners.
After installing the latest drivers sometimes the TWAIN and WIA drivers both show up in the Select Sources dialog, sometimes they do not.
If only the WIA driver appears and I use it once it disappears again before I can use it the second time.
My intentions tomorrow (unless you have better advice) are
1. Make a full image of the one that fails, so I can get back to it at will.
2. See if I can see any differences in what is loaded in memory using systernals tools.
3. Install a Canon driver (who knows?).
4. Install the Oracle Instant Client in place of the full one.
3. My application that runs in a dynamically loaded DLL sees only the WIA driver and I can scan as many docs as I like until I close my form.
After that, if I tell the form to load again it sees no drivers at all.
If I close the host application and re-open it then I see the WIA driver only.
Just can not figure out:
a. Why I can not see the regular driver.
b. Why the WIA driver gets lost.
c. If I open another simple app. I have just to load the select source dialog
it sees both drivers, even while my real program (still open) sees none.
Here is the weird part:
I change to using the Oracle 10g Instant Client and it starts working.
However, after the first iteration the WIA driver disappears as before; but the Fujitsu driver remains viewable and usable.
Has anyone else run into a Twain scanning issue lately? Scanning was working fine last week and now the Twain driver never shows up as an option. This involves several users with different printer/scanners installed. It just doesn't work anymore. One thing that has changed was Microsoft's latest 'Cumulative' update to Windows 10. That pushed out last week and is installed on all of the Twain users PCs. I guess I'm just hoping for a fix!
I am having the same issue the last few days and it is driving me nuts. I have already tried all of the steps in the troubleshoot link you supplied. The scanner works great with photoshop and other applications, just not Acrobat. Please help.
I am not sure if this will fix other Acrobate versions or Windows operating systems but some recent windows updates from 9/4/18 were installed and today my Acrobate scanning drivers work again. Hopefully, others will get fixed. The scanner troubleshooting page from Adobe was not helpful with this issue.
I support several users. This is a chronic problem. Acrobat periodically refuses to acknowledge the TWAIN driver. Installing all updates: WSUS's, Acrobat, Scanner Drivers sometimes helps, then sometimes not. User has to use the "Custom" mode which is not all that desireable. You cannot save the settings, so they have to be selected every scan. In "Custom" Acrobat scan's every document to whatever size page you select. But it all boils down to: Why does Acrobat refuse to acknowledge the TWAIN drivers? Especially since it previously recognized them? We use various Fujitsu Scanners. 6110 (which I have the least problems with), 6130, 7160, 7030, 7060. Why I spend 8 hours a month supporting Acrobat not recognizing drivers is frustrating.
In Acrobat, if I go to the setup ("Enhance Scans") to configure predefined settings for B&W document, the TW-Brother DCP-L2550DW scanner is displayed. But I can not change the Resolution and Paper Sizes fields. And if I click the scan button, I get an error message advising me to:
I'm having a pretty annoying issue. When I try to silent install a program, that program depends on the WIA or TWAIN driver (for scanners) NOT being "in use". The problem is that driver can be "in use" even after the scanner is unplugged from the computer (if it was plugged in before, the driver is used and doesn't stop being in use after unplugging)
I'm trying to install a scanner by IP the same way you would install a printer by IP. I don't want to install the horrible HP Solution Center software but I don't know how to install a network scanner without the software.
I'm having a hard time googling this because when I search for things like "install network scanner" or "install scanner by IP" all the results are for things like Angry IP Scanner which is clearly different than what I'm trying to get.
Printers work because there are standard ways of talking to a printer by IP, but there isn't a (common, Windows supported) standard for talking to a scanner by IP. You either need software which will do it installed on every computer, or you need a device which supports scanning to email, or scanning to a fileshare.
I'm assuming you're talking about a multifunction printer (MFP) that has print and scan capability. If that's the case then the network scanner function of the software package is just a driver and interface for the functionallity that exists in the MFP that allows you to configure it and use it from a computer. That being said, you ought to be able to configure the scan to network settings from the control panel of the MFP itself.
I can walk up to the MFP and configure it from the control panel to scan to the network without ever having to install the software on my computer. I can then scan documents directly from the scanner to the network. That won't allow me to do anything from my computer but I can at the very least install only the driver on my computer and have printing functionallity.
If the scanner supports networked TWAIN, then a networked TWAIN driver/software (versus USB) may work. Typically it is bundled by the manufacturer for their specific product, but it should be interchangeable.
If it is an HP N6350 you can modify the installers to only install the driver and required applications to make it work. It may work for other HP network scanners as well but I know the list of apps and the order in which they must be install for the N6350 to work.
There may be a setup.exe file within the package that you can run, or there may be one or more .inf files. Often, you can right-click on a .inf file and choose install, and the twain driver will install itself as a minimal installation.
This method does not always work, however. I arrived at this SO question after attempting this method with a Samsung M288x series AIO under Windows 7, and this method did not work. There was a setup.exe in the scanner-only package, and using that resulted in a larger installation than I wanted, but smaller than the full print/scan/fax/wash_dishes driver software package.
Memory mode uses the same data transfer method as previous versions of Acrobat and scans directly to the computer's memory. Native mode scans directly to the file and is more compatible with various scanners.
Change User Interface under Scanner Options from Hide Scanner's Native Interface to Show Scanner's Native Interface. Show Scanner's Native Interface uses the same scanning method as previous versions of Acrobat. It lets the scanner's driver operate the scanner. Hide Scanner's Native Interface attempts to use the Twain driver directly. It can eliminate error messages, especially when scanning multiple pieces of paper. If none of these solutions work, then it's sometimes necessary to use a workaround.
Note: Photoshop and Photoshop Elements don't always provide good results to test against. Scanner manufacturers develop software specifically for these products to reduce the likelihood of problems.
Acrobat supports Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) drivers. If your scanner supports both drivers, then select the WIA driver from the Device menu in the Create PDF From Scanner dialog box. Scan the document.
Contact the scanner manufacturer to obtain the latest driver. To reinstall the driver, delete all files and folders that begin with Twain (for example, "Twain_32.dll") in the Windows or Winnt folder. Then, restart Windows, and then install the latest scanner driver according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Some applications can cause system errors or freezes when running concurrently with Adobe Acrobat. Before starting Acrobat, disable other applications, including startup items (items that start automatically with Windows).
Scanning into Acrobat in some color modes can cause problems when using certain scanners. For instructions on scanning into Acrobat using a different color mode, see the documentation included with the scanner.
If the scanned image is clipped or has the wrong dimensions, then specify the image size in the preview panel for the scanner software. For instructions on specifying the image size, see the documentation included with the scanner.
If you've successfully scanned into Acrobat before, your user account could be corrupted, causing problems when you scan. Create a user account with administrative privileges, then log in to your system using the new account.
Some scanners don't report 'supported sizes' to Acrobat when Hide Scanner's Native Interface is selected in Scanner Options in Acrobat. Switch the User Interface option to Show Scanner's Native Interface and select the page size from the scanner application.
