About Our Speaker: Tommy Robinson
Tommy Robinson was born Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon on November 27, 1982, in Luton, England. He is a British political activist, journalist, author and commentator best known as the founder and former leader of the English Defence League, a street protest movement established in 2009 that opposed radical Islam, but was also criticized for promoting anti-Muslim sentiment and attracting violent elements. Before founding the EDL, Robinson was involved with other UK protest groups, including the British National Party, though he later distanced himself from it. He left the EDL in 2013, citing concerns about extremism within its ranks, and subsequently became active as a journalist, often focusing on issues such as Islamic extremism, immigration, and free speech.
Robinson has been a highly controversial figure in British politics, with supporters praising him as a defender of free expression, Zionist, and critic of government censorship, and detractors viewing him as a provocateur who spreads Islamophobia and social division. He has faced multiple legal controversies, and was imprisoned for contempt of court in 2018 that sparked both domestic and international protests from his supporters. Robinson has since continued to produce media content, stand in political elections, and remain a prominent voice in debates over national identity, free speech, and immigration in the United Kingdom.
He most recently led one of the UK's largest protest marches in London, "Unite The Kingdom". This will be Tommy's first public speaking event in Israel, invited to the country by Israeli Minister of Diaspora Affairs & the Fight Against Antisemitism Amichai Chikli, and hosted by Knesset Speaker MK Amir Ohana. Out event is in partnership with Betar Worldwide and more.....
