I just had my third (and final) C-section and want to get back into
shape. I am aprehensive that the local gym or yoga studio has staff
trained to deal with someone in my condition. Would a physical
therapist be a better place to start?
Thanks

Congrats on the arrival of your family's newest member!
After a C-Section, or regular birth for that matter, it is key to take
gradual steps back towards pre-pregnancy fitness levels and body
composition.
It is not uncommon for new moms to try to rush back into shape with an
"extreme makeover" routine.
Once your doctor gives you clearance to begin physical activity,
walking is the way to go. It is low-impact and puts minimal stress on
your hips, lower back and abdominal area.
Start with short walks. Increase the distance and pace as your
endurance improves. As it is not uncommon for women's arches to fall
during pregnancy, be sure to wear footwear that provides adequate arch
support.
When you are comfortable enough with your level of fitness to turn it
up a notch, then consider more intense activities like weight
training, yoga and pilates.
By gradually getting back into shape, you may not require the services
of a Chiropractor or Physical therapist. However, if walking and
normal movement like lifting the baby continue to cause discomfort in
the area of your hips, lower back or belly, it is not a bad idea to
consult a qualified PT or Chiropractor...especially those specializing
in post-pregnancy injury and rehab.
Good luck!
