Hi Tyler,
True. From a label perspective, Vitamin Water does have a comparable
amount of total sugars as soda. However, there is a big difference in
integrity of ingredients. Soda contains processed, white sugar and
high fructose corn syrup, and depending on the type of soda, can also
contain artificial colors and flavors. Vitamin Water contains
crystalline fructose, which is a less refined type of sugar. The
beverage contains no other artificial or questionable ingredients.
Calorically, your point is also well taken. My intent on listing
Vitamin Water on the Costco list is primarily based on ingredient
integrity, but I will clarify now that chugging a bottle or two a day
is not recommended for an individual with a low activity factor. Once
in a while is fine, but Vitamin Water is best suited to be consumed
around exercise or moderate to intense activity. For example, I will
have a Vitamin Water after playing ice hockey or an afternoon of yard
work on a hot day where dehydration is likely to occur. I typically
will not have a Vitamin Water or similar beverage while sitting at my
desk or hanging out at home watching TV. I stick with water.
Regards,
TLN Phil
