Hello Tyler.
In the concept put forth by the blog post you had me take a look at, I
do not agree that taking a day off to eat whatever you want is a good
idea.
Even if there is some metabolic benefit, it makes no sense to me for
an individual who is working diligently to correct their nutritional
habits, to blow off these efforts to get reckless and eat like crap
one day a week. Think about it: You ate great all week, probably
exercised, and now you are going to reward yourself by pounding your
body with a bunch of empty calories from the very foods you are trying
to avoid? Makes no sense to me.
The true reward by sticking to your diet, making better food choices
and exercising regularly is going to be fat loss, muscle gain,
increased energy, decreased feeling lousy and renewed self-confidence.
What you can do food-wise to reward yourself, is to indulge in one of
your favorite snacks or meals periodically throughout the week. The
catch is to have a healthier version of this meal or snack. It does
not have to be sloppy to taste good! Just about every pleasure food
out there these days is available with more favorable ingredients and
portion size. For example, if you were partial to the greasy, cheese-
laden, white-flour pizza, step up to a thin crust, whole-wheat, "easy
on the cheese" pizza. Make it even better by throwing on a veggie
topping or grilled chicken as a lean protein booster.
Regards,
TLN Phil
