Povodny mail:
Dear Sir/Madam,
It is my pleasure to announce that, just as in previous years, the ‘Model European Union’ project will take place again in the building of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, between 20th and 27th April, 2013.
During one week nearly 200 young Europeans will be given an unrivalled opportunity to experience the EU’s legislative procedure first-hand. The roles to be simulated at MEU 2013 are Members of the European Parliament, Ministers of the Council, Journalists, Lobbyists, and INTERPRETERS!
MEU interpreters will provide simultaneous (on occasion also consecutive or whispered) interpretation of parliamentary and council sessions as well as press conferences from English into their mother tongue and the other way around.
MEU 2013 creates a unique training opportunity for aspiring interpreters, who will be able to put their skills into practice in a professional environment during numerous speeches, discussions, and debates.
I myself have played the role of an interpreter in the 2011 edition of Model European Union and can honestly say that it is a life-changing project for young, ambitious people.
Since the working language of the simulation is English, we would like to invite those of your students whose language combination includes English as an active (B) working language, and whose mother tongue is one of the EU official languages (except for English), including Icelandic, Turkish, or Croatian.
Students interested in participating in MEU 2013 can apply now via our website:
The application period started on December 15th 2012 and ends on January 31st 2013.
As Interpreters’ PR&FR Officer, I would like to ask you to forward this call for applications to all eligible interpreting students in your department.
We would like to remind you about the possibility of securing places for your students by covering their expenses. If you have not yet decided or communicated your decision to us, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you kindly for your time and consideration.
Kind regards
