Twitter Tips and tricks or How to advertise TLD's and the OpenNIC

This message is meant generally for everybody who is advertising TLDs on twitter as well as specifically directed to the OpenNIC twitter account. It's for the openNIC but is of value to anyone who want to use the social marketing power of twitter.

The opennic twitter account has gone stagnant.

The following/followers number have remained the same 7 / 11 range. In fact the correct number is 7 / 7. Four of the followers are suspended accounts and do not show up.

In order to survive on twitter you have to increase your followers. I have already provided you guys with a program to automatically follow your followers. Someone is needed to write a shell script that adds people to the OpenNIC following. That way people have an opportunity to be notified your exist.

I speak from experience. In three weeks I have increased my followers from a few hundred when I first joined to 900 this week. Check it out.

I can't argue with results. And my followers are targeted to the issues I am interested in. I suggest we do the same for the opennic twitter account.

The best list of people I can recommend to add to the opennic following is the followers lists from Rod Beckstrom the new ICANN CEO - here are the ids of his followers.

He has over five thousand followers and most of those are targeted to the root / tld industry.

I propose the opennic add these followers - at least 100 per day using the twitter API. If you do more you might be suspended. That should generate a followers list of at least 2,000 or more followers when your done.

Once that is done we can move on to the next twitter lesson - getting your message out once you have a targeted following and the rules for personalizing content and impact.
