People - please advise all your roots that China has changed it's name servers.  See comments below to anyone who is interested.

"2009061411" suggests they changed today, 2009-06-14 (11)

well - i think that may be correct.  The public root already has the cdn1 to cdn5 nameservers for dns.cn.  Those were added back in October 24 2008 to the public root index.  So what seems to have happend is they dropped the cnnic.net.cn. domain.  Although I think the primary is hawk2 - so I will drop the cnnic.net.cn NS from the public root.  I will keep hawk2 active as a backup.

It looks like all the NS are on the same subnet.  Thats a violation of RFC.  But I am sure inside china they are properly anycast.

The TLD may wish to investigate.

"2009083597"   2009-08-3597

My timestamps say

  217-09-25 (265) Solis prairial
 2009-06-14 (165) 1713/3085 <9649/5159> 23:38:27 loc
 2009-06-14 (165) 1713/3085 <9649/5159> 21:38:27 UTC

We are living in the year 217 after the french revolution.
We are in the 9th month called Prairial, the prairie month.
The day 25 Solis and the 265th day of the year.
The french did start their year at samhain or somewhen
close to september 22.

So the chinese do start their calendar not like the
Buddhist Calender but like the french revolutionaries
and they start with 0 not 1.

Those final 4 digits look peculiar but they cannot be random.
They most likely are not allowed to overflow into the month
and they must allow increments for some 30 days.

Cheers
Peter and Karin
