Support for the ESP8266 anytime soon?

Are there any plans for supporting the ESP8266-12E anytime in the future? I use this library with the Pro Mini and the TLC5940 to control banks of lighting with fade effects and want to replace the Pro Mini with the ESP8266 in my design. I cannot find any example of this library being used with the ESP8266, and my attempts using it in the Arduino IDE 1.6.5 have failed. I suspect it has something to do with chip_includes.h and not having a file for the ESP8266 in that same folder. This causes avr/io.h not to be found when compiling. Please advise if possible.
