The goal of the surgical technology program at GTCC is to prepare competent entry-level surgical technologists in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.

If you are fascinated with the operating room and surgery, you may be interested in becoming a Surgical Technologist. As a member of the surgical team, the Surgical Technologist prepares supplies, equipment, and instruments for the operation; prepares patients for surgery; maintains aseptic conditions; and assists the surgeon during the operation.

The GTCC Surgical Technology program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA). The program meets the ARC/STSA threshold for retention rates ranging from 2017-2018 at 71% and job placement rates ranging from 2017-2018 at 80%.

The Plumbing Certificate program is designed to give you the opportunity to acquire basic skills to assist with the installation and repairs of plumbing systems in residential and light commercial buildings. Course work includes; sketching diagrams, interpretation of blueprints, and practices in plumbing assembly. You will gain knowledge of state codes and requirements. You will develop skills through hands-on participation during lab and at job sites.

The Physical Therapist Assistant program at GTCC prepares you to work in direct patient care, providing rehabilitation to patients and clients in a variety of healthcare settings. Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) treat people of all ages under the direction and supervision of physical therapists.

Phlebotomy is taught through classwork, student laboratory, and clinical experiences. You will be trained to perform a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques and precautions, including vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles, and blood culture specimen collection on adults, children, and infants. Emphasis will be placed on infection prevention, proper patient identification, proper labeling of specimens, and quality assurance. You will be taught specimen handling, processing, and accessioning. You will learn the theory and principles of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waived laboratory tests and perform the tests in the student laboratory.
