Yes I would surprised if it doesn't work on my 2020 iMac. It use to work just fine until I upgraded the MacOS to Monterey. Tried doing the reset que and repair compressor but still no luck. Very frustrating!

It is definitely a bug in Monterey. You cannot send to compressor any projects that have titles. Any title. You can add Compressor settings to your FCP destinations and do one at a time. But I need to create 4 different resolutions of videos so that the right one can stream well. Compressor is the only way to do this.

My workaround was to create a new partition and install Big Sur in it. I then installed FCP and Compressor. If I need to send a batch to compressor I then boot into Big Sur and output. A big pain, but unlike Monterey, it works.

Hello everyone. Has anybody had problems launching the latest version 4.6.5 of Apple compressor? Final Cut Pro 10.6.8 seems to be working great with no issues, including all the plug-ins I use. But compressor just crashes. Motion works fine as well. Just Compressor crashes on launch on both an M2 ultra max studio and a M1 max laptop. Both running DB5 as a test.

I'm using the Apple compressor app from the command line to generate movies from sequences of images. This works fine, but the relevant command line command just exits before the job is done (while the compressor app carries out the task in the background). Hence one is left wondering when the job is finished. Using top I can check whether Apple compressor is still active, but I was hoping there is an option that let's me know when the job is done (ideally via osascript).

Here's a bash script that does the job. As an input it takes a directory containing the file/s to be handled by compressor. It writes the result to a predefined directory and opens the resulting file with QuickTime.

To start with, we want an MP4 file. None of compressor's presets are tailored to produce these (Apple device presets produce M4V files). Click the + button at the bottom of the settings pane and choose " New Setting".

Now that you've finished creating a preset, you can turn it into a Droplet. To to this, highlight the setting in the left pane of compressor, right click it, and select " Save as Droplet". Now all you have to do is drag files onto the droplet to initiate an encoding job.

PSP VintageWarmer2 is a high-quality digital simulation of an analog-style single or multi-band compressor/limiter. It combines rich, warm analog processing with a straightforward user interface, and comes with a comprehensive library of presets.

When it comes to your sounds, experimentation is key, but before you spend a lot of your time figuring out individual compressor settings from scratch, check out the supplied Compression pre-sets.
In Garageband the compressor comes with many contextual presets that can come close to sounding half decent and make for a great starting point to work from.

Your tutorial on Compression helped me to understand this concept completely! Thanks so much, Patrick! I loved your examples. I also loved your encouragement about Garageband 10.0.03 I think it is ( am I correct?). Good to have the compressor plug-in back!
I would love to see a tutorial by you on EQ in Logic.
Is EQ in the new version of Garageband as well?
Thanks a million, Patrick. Feel free to email me back. You are an excellent teacher. Warm Regards, Dori

Before you try third-party video compression software on Mac, you should know that some of Mac's built-in free compressor apps have some basic video compression features for different purposes. The first we would like to recommend to you is Finder. It offers video compression and decompression on Mac in the ZIP format. That means videos can be compressed without losing quality on Mac during the compression.

If you want a more versatile free video compressor for Mac, don't miss iMovie. Like Finder and QuickTime, iMovie is pre-installed on Mac computers. It has more editing features to make videos smaller on Mac. To be specific, it lets you split a long video into shorter clips, cut off extra parts from the video, change the video dimensions, and adjust the output resolutions. All the features can shrink a video to your desired size.

HandBrake is a free and open-source compressor running on Mac, Windows, and Linux. It can rip DVDs, Blu-ray, convert video, and compress videos. It has a wide range of features to help you easily compress a video to different sizes for Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, email, etc.

If you don't want to download desktop-based video compression software on Mac, you can simply use free online video compressors, just like Clipchamp. When an internet connection is available, simply open a browser on your Mac, get access to the Clipchamp utility, and then you can import a video for compressing.

Like other compressor apps, BetterZip also offers encryption options. On top of that, you also get a password manager that keeps track of all the passwords you use. It can also suggest stronger passwords for your archive files. It also lets you create presets and filters to automate the workflow.

VideoProc Converter AI is the best MOV compressor in the market for good reasons. With support for over 370 formats including ProRes, MPEG4, H.264, and H.265, it can help you compress, convert, and edit virtually any MOV file without hassles. It offers a one-click solution to reduce MOV file size by 90% without affecting the picture quality. ?

Thanks to the innovative support for level-3 GPU acceleration technology, it can compress even large 4K MOV files at a speed of 47x faster than real-time playback, making it the fastest MOV compressor in the market.

Freeconvert can compress MOV file less than 1GB to 60+ formats in relatively fast speed. Moreover, this handy online MOV compressor allows you to adjust the bitrate, codec, and several other parameters, so you have different ways to make a MOV file smaller on Mac and Windows.

Step 2. Choose Select From Disk, Select From Dropbox (Fast), or Select From Google Drive (Fast) to import the MOV to the online MOV compressor from local disk, Dropbox, or Google Drive.

Im learning davinci desktop, it is a wonderful application. I learned the FCP suite (even dvd studio scripting) right before apple blew that world up...i dont trust them or thier apps at all, except for mail ;/

The more choices the better - dropbox is my major one, onedrive for some fun stuff storage, google for family / friends stuff, evernote instead of apples basic note syncing, etc, and slides instead of keynotes closed formats/version incompatibilities.

As a 20 yr mac user i despise how they operate. Yes, having this on the go is good for SOMEONE, but its the workflow will be interesting to say the least. hard drives, where do project files and local files go, external files, plugins...yikes. To say that apple's requirements can be finicky is a huge understatement.

Guess they didn't get the message . That editor letter supposedly sent to Apple ( if not just a marketing scheme ) , kind of urged apple to open final cut to windows users . Not create a relatively unusable ipad app and usher a subscription model which is the main reason resolve had the chance to grow as large as it did .
